Kemba Walker Tired Of Not Being In Playoffs

Mar 27, 2018 10:46 AM

Kemba Walker's future with the Charlotte Hornets is uncertain as he's one offseason away from becoming a free agent and the franchise will again miss the playoffs.

“At this point, I want to win. I want to be in the playoffs,” Walker told the Observer on Monday morning. “I’m tired of not being in the playoffs. ... I hate watching them on TV.

“I’ve been there twice in seven years, and it’s just not fun” missing out.

Walker is building his dream house in Charlotte.

“Hopefully, I’ll be here for a long time.”

The Hornets will hire a new general manager this offseason and the most critical and immediate decision will be what to do with Walker.

“Whenever we get a new GM, we’ll see what direction he wants to go,” Walker said, “and I’ll make the best decision for me.”

Kemba Walker Put Himself Back Onto Charlotte's Draft Board With Tourney Play

Mar 14, 2018 6:05 PM

The Charlotte Hornets had crossed Kemba Walker off their draft list but that changed when Michael Jordan watched him play during the Big East Tournament and NCAA Tournament. The Hornets had already drafted D.J. Augustin and he was viewed at the time as their long-term solution at point guard.

Walker led UConn to the national championship in 2011 and Jordan was reminded of himself with his ability to hit clutch shots.

“Michael Jordan fell in love with Kemba because of how great Kemba was in the NCAA tournament, the source said. “Michael’s the greatest competitor of all time. Michael saw a little bit of the competitiveness that he had in Kemba. As good as Connecticut was at that time, they couldn’t have done it if Kemba hadn’t put that team on his back. I think Michael placed such a high value on that.”

Walker was selected ninth overall and he's since become Charlotte's franchise player.
