Dwyane Wade: Leaving Heat For Bulls Was Decision 'Solely For Me'

Jul 29, 2016 3:25 PM

Dwyane Wade had his introductory press conference with the Chicago Bulls in which he explained his decision to leave the Miami Heat.

“I have no rift with Pat Riley," said Wade. "This year, the direction of that organization was a little different than it was in years past."

Wade was offered a two-year, $40 million deal by the Heat.

"I had a contract offer from Miami. It was my decision to be selfish and live out a dream of mine," said Wade. "This was a decision solely for me. It has nothing to do with Pat Riley or Micky Arison."

"I wanted to be a part of building this organization back up," said Wade about the Bulls.

Jimmy Butler Unbothered By Trade Rumors Or Perceptions

Jul 29, 2016 10:53 AM

The Chicago Bulls have overhauled their roster over the offseason with Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol leaving. But Jimmy Butler insists it wasn't a decision he had an influence over.

“That has nothing to do with me,’’ Butler said on Thursday. “I don’t move guys. Just like I always say – people are going to think what they want to think.’’

The Bulls also reportedly considered trading away Butler in a package that would have brought back Kris Dunn.

“It’s not their job to report anything to me,’’ Butler said of general manager Gar Forman and VP of basketball operations John Paxson. “I’m a big boy. I don’t need you to tell me, ‘No, you’re not going to be traded.’ I know it’s a business and if it happens it happens, but I’m here.

“I don’t pay attention to it. I was in the gym working out during the draft. My phone was blowing up, but what can I do? I can go in the office and be like, ‘Hey please don’t trade me?’ If they were going to do that, that’s on them not me.’’

Derrick Rose: Knicks, Warriors Are The Super Teams

Jul 22, 2016 9:44 AM

Derrick Rose believes the New York Knicks are the NBA's other new superteam along with the Golden State Warriors.

Rose was asked about what the expectations should be for the Knicks this season. New York acquired Rose, Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee to join Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis.

"They're high. I mean, with these teams right now, they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams, and they're trying not to build that many super teams, and Adam Silver came out with the statement and this and that," said Rose. "And the expectations I think of us, we just want to win. Talking to Melo and all the guys who've been around. You've got Brandon who just signed for one year, he's got to show why he's there. I've got to show why I'm there. Joakim has to show why he's there. Everybody's trying to prove themselves. When you've got a group like that, it's like, alright, I know everybody wants to do that, but we're going to break this down as simple as possible, and try to win every game. I think winning takes care of every category, as far as being an athlete. You look at endorsements, being on the floor, almost everything -- I think winning takes care of all that. And if you're in the league, winning takes care of all the mistakes, or if you have any problems on teams."

Rose is excited to be playing in New York.

"I'm going into a great market," Rose says. "I'm going into a city where they love basketball -- basketball is a culture there, and they love players that play hard. And I think I fit that."

"I think this is a huge opportunity for me, and I'm preparing myself right now."

Pat Riley Admits Regret Over Dwyane Wade's Departure

Jul 16, 2016 7:56 PM

Pat Riley already regrets the departure of Dwyane Wade from the Miami Heat to the Chicago Bulls.

"What happened with Dwyane floored me," Riley said. "I'm going to miss the fact of what I might have had planned for him and his future and how I saw the end and my thought process in how I could see his end here with the Heat. ... It's my responsibility to sort of make that happen. I didn't make it happen. Dwyane left, and the buck stops here."

Wade admitted that a "business" rift with Riley played a big role in his decision to sign with the Bulls.

Riley admitted that he was not as involved in the negotiation process as he needed to be in order to retain Wade.

"I have great regret I didn't put myself in the middle of it and immerse myself in the middle of it and get in a canoe and paddle to the Mediterranean if I had to, be in New York when he arrived on the 6th and greet him at the airport," Riley said. "I wasn't there in the middle of the negotiation, and that's my job. It's not going to be the same without him. We will forge ahead."

Riley believes Wade's decision was not motivated by money.

"That is where we both failed ... I more than he, because he's the asset, he's the star, he's the face of the franchise,'' Riley said. "I should have done everything that I could have verbally in trying to change his mindset to mine, a big picture, a better picture, or one that I thought would help him."

The Chicago Bulls have taken Jimmy Butler off the trade market for now, according to league sources.

The Bulls reportedly discussed Butler trade scenarios with both the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves on and around the draft.

Butler signed a five-year, $95 million contract with the Bulls in 2015 that contains a player option for 2019.

Pat Riley Never Called Dwyane Wade During Free Agency

Jul 7, 2016 6:24 PM

Pat Riley never reached out to Dwyane Wade throughout the free agency process.

Wade met with Micky Arison on Wednesday shortly before he decided to join the Chicago Bulls.

Riley texted the following message to Dan Le Batard:

“SADDDDDDD!!!! SO saddddddd! I will never forget the sixth game in Dallas in 2006. DW rebounded the ball, and threw it to the heavens and the Heat universe was perfect for that moment. Our first world championship. Our universe is not perfect today. It will be fraught with anger, judgment, blame instead of THANK YOU!!! Ten years ago. Ten years older. Ten years wiser. Ten years changed. All of us. Dwyane had a choice, and he made it. He went home. Bad, bad summer for us. But there will be another 10 years, and it will be someone or something else in 2026. Move on with no blood or tears. Just thanks. I truly loved Dwyane, but families grow, change and get on with another life. He will always be a part of us. ALWAYS! And no more bruises and enough fighting. Let’s just fly above it if we can and never forget. I feel his pain and pride for what pushed him over the ledge. Been there. Forever, for always, your coach I will be. FOREVER!”

Le Batard also reported that Wade and Riley's relationship was damaged by the end with Wade's allegiances to LeBron James.
