Apr 30, 2020 1:26 AM

Adrian Griffin or Ime Udoka could possibly succeed Jim Boylen as the next head coach of the Chicago Bulls, league sources told Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.

Arturas Karnisovas will give his head coach, whether it is Boylen or someone else, full autonomy in choosing their own staff.

While Boylen is hoping to stay, multiple rival executives told The Athletic that they expect Karnisovas to bring in his own head coach.

Karnisovas recently hired Marc Eversley as the team's general manager.

Toni Kukoc: I Wish Jerry Krause Was Here To Say His Part Of The Story

Apr 27, 2020 2:47 PM

Toni Kukoc was a second round pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1990 as he was a player Jerry Krause "lusted after" per Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Kukoc didn't sign with the Bulls until 1993.

Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen had heard of Krause's adulation of Kukoc. Jordan and Pippen referred to Kukoc as "Jerry's guy."

"I wish Jerry were here to say his part of the story," Kukoc said about 'The Last Dance'. "It's easy to like Michael and Scottie and Dennis and Phil, and I like them all. I love them. Scottie was the ultimate team player. Michael will always, to me, be the best player ever. He changed the game. He made it global. Every player today should tip their hat to him. But you have to hear the other side. Jerry built the six-time champions. You have to give him credit."

"The [Krause] thing made it very difficult for him at first," said Jim Cleamons, a longtime Phil Jackson lieutenant. "It was unfair to Toni, honestly."

Arturas Karnisovas To Focus On Drafting, Player Development With Bulls

Apr 16, 2020 12:35 PM

New Chicago Bulls vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas outlined his vision for the team during his introductory press conference, emphasizing player development through the draft.

"We are the second youngest team in the league, a great young core; the Bulls drafted well. Players want to play, but at the end of the day they want to win. My job is going to be to facilitate that. It was a huge thing for us in Denver and it's going to be huge here in Chicago. We're going to have to improve our players. There's three ways of building teams – through your draft, through free agency and through trades. I think building through the draft and developing your players is the key to getting better every year," said Karnisovas.

Karnisovas said that his next step was to hire a general manager who will compliment his skills.

Karnisovas added that he had discussions with Jim Boylen about implementing a high-paced, entertaining style of play.

"I already had a conversation with Jim (Boylen), kind of talking about what kind of style of play I would like, what kind of players I like. I like high pace, moving the ball. We were able to be a very good passing team in Denver. It's a very entertaining brand of basketball. I like multi-positional players. I like guys with high basketball IQ that play off each other. ... Just looking at their play last year, obviously they won — now I would say we won — 22 games. I watch a lot of games. I will continue to evaluate. The rebounding and shooting were a couple of the issues."

Bulls Retain John Paxson As Senior Advisor Of Basketball Operations

Apr 13, 2020 12:27 PM

John Paxson will move to an advisory role with the Chicago Bulls with the hiring of Arturas Karnisovas.

Paxson will officially be Senior Advisor of Basketball Operations.

“John has an invaluable perspective on our organization and where we want to be, and he played an instrumental role in this change by bringing forward the idea of a restructure and reorganization," said Jerry Reinsdorf. "I have always held his knowledge and basketball insight in the highest regard, and he has earned my respect as well as that of his peers. His decision to take on a new role reflects what I’ve always known about John – that he is forever a willing teammate on and off of the court and always does what he believes is in the best interest of the Chicago Bulls.”

“When I came here in 1985, I never imagined what the Chicago Bulls would mean to me more than 35 years later," said Paxson. "While I’m in a new role and a new phase in my life, what won’t ever change is my commitment to the Bulls and appreciation to Jerry and Michael for the incredible opportunities I’ve been afforded. I’ve had the rare opportunity to see this team as a player, broadcaster and executive, and at every turn I’ve been fortunate to experience what makes this organization so special - people who give their best every day and work together as a team, as well as our incredible fans who support us. I’ve always tried to do what was best for our organization and put our team in position to succeed, and ultimately compete. I know Arturas will do the same. He brings the kind of talent, experience and commitment to collaboration that will allow him to succeed in his new role. I truly believe this is a great opportunity for the Bulls organization and that there are bright days ahead.”
