Billy Donovan said he was excited to take over the Chicago Bulls' job due to the franchise's iconic place within basketball.

"The history. The organization. What the Bulls have meant to the game of basketball and to basketball worldwide. I mean, it's an iconic franchise, and certainly to be a part of trying to help build it back up was certainly very, very appealing and exciting, said Donovan, who was introduced on Thursday.

Donovan signed a four-year deal worth over $24 million.

Donovan is unable to join the Bulls during their voluntary workouts due to protocols surrounding COVID-19.

Arturas Karnisovas said he sold Donovan on his vision for the team.

"Beside the fact of what he was saying in our meetings, his record speaks for itself. So he didn't have to prove it to us that he's capable of building a program to make it successful. I think just looking at his résumé you can say that so it was more about us selling our vision," said Karnisovas.

The Chicago Bulls agreed to hire Billy Donovan this week as head coach.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reports Donovan's deal is worth more than $24 million over four seasons.

The Bulls had Fred Hoiberg on a contract worth approximately $5 million per season.

The Chicago Bulls have hired Vanja Cernivec as an international scout.

Cernivec worked in the NBA's office in Spain as manager of basketball operations since 2015.

Cernivec also played professionally in Slovenia.

Arturas Karnisovas aggressively pursued Donovan in the aftermath of Donovan's leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder after five seasons. Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley believed Donovan was the best coach available.

Donovan replaces Jim Boylen as head coach.

The Chicago Bulls are expected to narrow the field of head coaching candidates down to the finalists for the next round of interviews.

Wes Unseld Jr., Ime Udoaka, Darvin Ham and Kenny Atkinson have had strong interviews with the Bulls so far.

Chicago is searching for a replacement for Jim Boylen.

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times writes that Kenny Atkinson "has a growing reputation as a bit of a self-promoter" according to "several current and former NBA coaches."

Atkinson is a candidate to become the next head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

Cowley adds that "the Bulls just ridded themselves of a guy like that when they fired Jim Boylen last month."

Atkinson spent four seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and was fired in March.

Billy Donovan is expected to command the interest of several teams after mutually parting ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Donovan's name has been floated as a candidate for the vacant Sixers' job, according to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer. 

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN added that the Bulls are also expected to have interest in Donovan.

The Bulls are currently undergoing the first-round of interviews with several candidates.
