Brian Windhorst said he does not expect Donovan Mitchell to sign an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, though he added that the decision should not necessarily cause panic.

"I do not expect him to sign an extension with the Cavs this summer, nor do I expect that to cause a major alarm," said Windhorst on ESPN.

Mitchell, who has two years left on his contract, will be eligible for a three-year extension next summer. 

"How Donovan ... explains his decision process will be very important for the Cleveland Cavaliers, their fans, and potentially other teams out there who may be interested in making a trade," added Windhorst about Mitchell's appearance at the upcoming media day. 

Mitchell is not eligible to receive a supermax contract as a result of getting traded to the Cavs. 

Koby Altman was arrested Friday night and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired. Altman became general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 and elevated to president of basketball operations in January 2022.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers stopped Altman just before 9 p.m. in Cleveland. He was charged with "committing a marked lanes violation and OVI."

"Troopers initiated a traffic stop and during their interaction with the driver indicators of impairment were observed," the OSHP said, according to multiple reports. "The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for OVI and soon after offered a breath test which he refused."

Police noted that Altman was "respectful and cooperative with troopers."

"We are aware of an incident involving Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman," the Cavaliers said in a statement Saturday. "We are currently gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."

Altman turned 41 on Saturday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Zhaire Smith to an Exhibit 10 deal, reported Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Smith was drafted with the 16th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. 

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Sharife Cooper on Wednesday.

Cooper played for the G League's Charge last season.

The Cavs also recently signed Justin Powell and Pete Nance ahead of training camp.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Pete Nance. The deal is expected to be a non-guaranteed camp deal that will see Nance join the Cleveland Charge of the G League, following the NBA preseason.

Nance played in six games for the Cavs at Las Vegas Summer League. The 6-foot-11 forward went undrafted out of North Carolina at the 2023 NBA Draft.

Nance averaged 9.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Tar Heels as a senior transfer. Nance played the first four years of his collegiate career with Northwestern.

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Justin Powell to a contract, his agent told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Powell, who went undrafted in the most recent draft, played in Summer League with the Heat. 

Tristan Thompson and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a contract. Thompson will give the Cavaliers depth at center.

Thompson appeared in six playoff games last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
