Dirk Sticking With Dallas Through 2010-11

Sep 26, 2006 9:15 PM

Dirk Nowitzki is sticking with the Dallas Mavericks at least through the 2010-11 season.

A week before opening training camp, the Mavs made sure their superstar forward remains under contract for the next five seasons with a lucrative extension Tuesday.

Nowitzki, 28, already was signed for the upcoming season and had a $16 million-plus option for 2007-08 under the maximum contract he signed in 2001. The new deal guarantees that season, plus tacks on three more. He'll turn 33 the summer his new contract expires.

Terms of the deal were not released, but with basic raises the extension is likely worth around $60 million.

Mavs And Howard To Work On New Contract

Sep 21, 2006 1:26 AM

On Wednesday, Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban said that the club will continue to discuss an extension on the contract of Josh Howard.

Donnie Nelson hopes to have the deal finalized prior to the start of training camp.

"Everybody prefers to find the common ground and get some security for both sides," Nelson said. "We're going in a decent direction and there's a pretty good possibility something can get done. But there's no real sense of urgency. If for some reason nothing happens, then he plays for us this season and we revisit it next summer."

Harris Improving His Jumper

Sep 19, 2006 7:51 AM

Devin Harris estimates he has averaged 600 to 700 jump shots every day for the past month, shooting from places where the Mavs' offense will allow him to.

"I had pretty much a great run at San Antonio, but the last two series I could have played better," Harris says. "The way Miami was playing me, it was almost like they were playing five-on-four. They weren't respecting my outside touch.

"In the regular season, you may get away with it. But the further we went in the playoffs ... It frustrated me."

No-Show Kemp Blows Chance With Bulls

Sep 19, 2006 2:40 AM

Shawn Kemp's planned workout at the Berto Center never materialized Monday, and it's unlikely the six-time NBA All-Star will receive another invitation from the Bulls, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Kemp experienced travel problems late Sunday night but still arrived in Chicago early Monday morning. Instead of working out with the Bulls, he traveled to his hometown of Elkhart, Ind., to visit an ailing relative.

Kemp, who retired in 2003 after 14 seasons because of weight issues, also missed a planned workout with Dallas earlier this year.
