Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Rodrigue Beaubois Takes Boxing Lessons

Aug 22, 2012 11:20 PM

Rodrigue Beaubois is working with a boxing trainer in an effort to become tougher and more physical on the court.

"Roddy B's been working out actually. He's been in the gym; I saw him just the other day. He's taking boxing classes," Mavs owner Mark Cuban said. "I told Roddy and the folks around him, I said he's got to learn to throw a punch and take a punch. So he's been taking some boxing classes, he's been working out, he's bigger, he's stronger. He's going to have a chance to compete, just like everybody."

Beaubois’ production has stagnated in part because of a dislocated finger suffered last April.

"He should be [farther along], but once he got hurt he didn't recover quite the way we had hoped," Cuban said. "But I think that's in the past now and so he'll have every opportunity. We'll find out. We're not going to pre-judge. He's going to get a chance to play and if he outplays O.J., he'll play instead of O.J. If he outplays Darren, he'll play instead of Darren. It's very Darwinian."

Kobe Nearly Traded To Mavericks In 2007

Aug 22, 2012 1:49 PM

The Mavericks nearly acquired Kobe Bryant in a trade with the Lakers in 2007, according to an interview Mark Cuban had on Tuesday.

“When I was doing Dancing with the Stars, I was taking breaks because I was talking to Kobe’s agent because Kobe wanted to get traded,” Cuban said. “Literally, between Dancing with the Stars practices I had thought we traded for Kobe Bryant. I even talked to their owner and thought we were going to have done deal, and [Lakers GM] Mitch Kupchak changed [Kobe’s] mind and brought him back.”

Dallas would not have traded Dirk Nowitzki for Bryant, which would have left Jason Terry, Jerry Stackhouse, Devin Harris, Erick Dampier, Josh Howard and draft picks as possible pieces.

Bryant was seeking a trade during the 2007 offseason.

Cuban: Mavericks 'In Better Position' Without Deron Williams

Aug 22, 2012 10:45 AM

Mark Cuban believes signing Deron Williams may not have been the best move.

"I don't want to pick on Deron Williams because he's a great, great, great player, and so it's not necessarily him, per se," Cuban said. "The conversation we had going back and forth -- and obviously the decision was to go for him -- but the conversation was, 'OK, once you add $17.1 million in salary to what we'd have with Dirk (Nowitzki) and Trix (Shawn Marion), then what do you do?' That's your squad. And it's not just your squad for this year. It's your squad for next year other than the $3.3 million mini midlevel.

"So that was a challenge that we had because we want to win, and everybody talks about Dirk's window. Well, not only would it have been difficult to add players, then it also would have been difficult to trade players, and in reality that was the same problem that Deron had. Because he looked and saw the same thing and said, 'OK, now what are you going to do?'"

Williams was reportedly unsure about the Mavericks’ future, choosing instead to sign a five-year, $98 million deal with the Nets.

Source: Mavericks Remain An Option For Dwight In 2013

Aug 11, 2012 1:47 PM

Dwight Howard has no financial incentive to agree to an extension with the Lakers, which means he will become a free agent in July.

Howard will have one full season with the Lakers before committing to a long-term deal.

Depending on how Howard's experience with the Lakers progresses, he may consider signing for less money with the Mavericks. Dallas, who Howard reportedly preferred over the Lakers, appears intent on preserving their cap space for 2013.

"Dallas will be there for him," said one source.
