The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to sign Chris Silva to a 10-day contract.

Silva has averaged 14.2 points and 7.6 rebounds for the College Park Skyhawks.

The Dallas Mavericks are open to trading Dorian Finney-Smith in a trade for a star-caliber player, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic. 

Finney-Smith signed a four-year, $55 million extension with the Mavericks last offseason. Finney-Smith holds a player option for 25-26.

If the Mavericks are successful in trading for a major upgrade, it almost certainly would require the inclusion of Finney-Smith. The Mavericks have a high price threshold for teams interest in Finney-Smith. The Utah Jazz are a team who has expressed a strong interest in Finney-Smith.

The New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks are mentioned as possible trade destinations for Kyle Kuzma should he demand a trade, sources told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

Pincus adds that "smart money" has Kuzma staying with the Wizards this season, then opting out of his contract and signing new deal with the team.

Marc Stein of Substack recently reported that the Wizards plan on re-signing both Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis. 

Luka Doncic is expected to be day-to-day after a "mild sprain" of his left ankle.

An X-ray was negative, and Jason Kidd said Doncic was in "good spirits" after the game.

"He looked good, he looked fine," Kidd said. "But we'll see how he feels as we go forward."

The Dallas Mavericks next play on Saturday at the Utah Jazz.

Christian Wood will miss more time than initially expected due to a fractured left thumb and won't be re-evaluated until next week.

There was initial hope that Wood could have returned to the lineup this week.

Marc Stein of Substack adds that Wood, who will be a free agent this summer, may be a player to monitor should he be unable to agree to a contract extension with the Mavs. 

Luka Doncic left the Dallas Mavericks' Thursday game against the Phoenix Suns in the first half with a left ankle injury.

X-rays on the ankle were negative for Doncic.

Doncic was scoreless in the game.

The Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Clippers have been mentioned as possible landing spots for D'Angelo Russell, sources told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report. 

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported earlier this month that the Timberwolves were shopping Russell, mentioning Mike Conley as a potential target.

Russell is currently in the final year of a four-year, $117 million deal. 

Fred VanVleet is drawing trade interest from several teams, including the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, and Orlando Magic, sources told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

The Magic are reportedly looking to bring in a point guard for the long term to develop next to their young talent, which assumes that VanVleet would re-sign with the team should he get traded.

VanVleet is widely expected to opt out of his player option this summer.  

This week it was reported that Luka Doncic has "strongly indicated" he would like the Dallas Mavericks to upgrade the roster around him. ESPN's Tim MacMahon elaborated on his reporting during Friday's episode of the Hoop Collective podcast. 

"Really, the newsworthy thing here is that Luka is starting to be much more involved in the personnel discussions," said MacMahon. "Where previously it's always been like 'Y'all can let me know, but I don't really want to be involved right now.'

"He's starting to be much more involved. The ideas aren't just being bounced off him is my understanding. He's bouncing some ideas the other way as well."

The Mavericks reached the Western Conference Finals last season while also winning 52 regular season games. The Mavericks were sixth in the NBA in defense. This season, they are 25th in defense and are on pace to be just a little over .500.

Christian Wood was diagnosed with a fractured left thumb and will be re-evaluated next week.

Wood suffered the injury during the Mavs' 130-122 loss to the Hawks on Wednesday night.

With Maxi Kleber already out, JaVale McGee and Dwight Powell are currently the team's only healthy big men.
