Mavin Bagley III has agreed to a three-year, $37 million deal with the Detroit Pistons.
Bagley finished last season with the Pistons after they had coveted him via trade for a considerable amount of time.
Bagley was the second overall pick in 2018 by the Kings.
Bagley is represented by Jeff Schwartz.
Kemba Walker has yet to be officially traded from the New York Knicks to the Detroit Pistons. However, when that trade does happen, Walker won't be a Piston for long.
Walker is finalizing a buyout of his $9.2 million contract with Detroit. Walker will then be an unrestricted free agent upon clearing waivers.
Walker sat out most of the second half of last season, as the Knicks went in other directions at the point guard position. When he did play, Walker averaged 11.6 points and 3.5 assists. He shot only 40% from the field, but Walker did knock down 36.7% of his three-pointers.
The Detroit Pistons are expected to re-sign Marvin Bagley III on a deal worth more than $10 million per year, possibly on a two-year agreement.
The Pistons traded for Bagley last season after he sought a trade from the Sacramento Kings.
Bagley averaged 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds in 27.2 minutes over 18 games after joining the Pistons.
Detroit had been linked to a pursuit of Deandre Ayton, but that is now off the table following their selection of Jalen Duren on draft night and further trades with the New York Knicks that eat up their cap space.
Victor Oladipo is not expected to return to the Miami Heat in free agency.
Oladipo appeared in 15 playoff games for the Heat this season, averaging 10.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 24.5 minutes per game as he worked his way back from tendon surgery on his right knee.
The Washington Wizards, Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons are believed to be interested in Oladipo.
The New York Knicks have agreed to trade Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons, which will clear $19 million in additional cap space as they are set to pursue Jalen Brunson in free agency.
The Knicks will send the Pistons back its 2023 second round pick, a 2024 second rounder via the Miami Heat, and $6 million in cash.
The Knicks are now considered the strong favorites to sign Brunson with an offer of more than $100 million over four years.
The Knicks can also offer Brunson the opportunity to be their primary playmaker.
The Detroit Pistons have tendered a $7.2 million qualifying offer to Marvin Bagley III. Bagley will be a restricted free agent on July 1.
This move is considered to be procedural. The Pistons have the ability to create a league-high $40 million or more in cap space this offseason. It's expected that Detroit and Bagley will quickly reach an agreement on his next contract. That will allow the Pistons to renounce Bagley's sizable cap hold to use cap space for other moves, while retaining enough space to sign Bagley later in the offseason.
Bagley played well after being acquired by Detroit from the Sacramento Kings at the trade deadline. The 23-year-old big man averaged 14.6 points on 55.5% shooting to along with 6.8 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per game with the Pistons.
The Detroit Pistons are in position to have the most cap space in the NBA this summer. Now, it seems like Detroit will sacrifice a bit of that space to retain one of their own players.
The Pistons are reportedly likely to pick up their $5.2 million team option for wing Hamidou Diallo for next season. That would reduce Detroit's projected cap space to about $40.6 million in July.
The same report also says that the Pistons are likely to decline their $3.15 team option for guard Frank Jackson. That would make Jackson and unrestricted free agent this summer.
The New York Knicks continue to seek a trade with the Detroit Pistons for Jaden Ivey, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
New York's ability to trade for Ivey could hinge on whether Jalen Duren is available at No. 11.
James Edwards III of The Athletic has reported that the Pistons will keep Ivey.
The Detroit Pistons now have $43 million in cap space entering the offseason following their trade of Jerami Grant and are "heavily expected" to pursue Deandre Ayton.
While the Phoenix Suns aren't necessarily determined to retain Deandre Ayton, they are widely expected to not let him leave without compensation, which could lead to a sign-and-trade.
Ayton and the Suns were unable to agree to terms on an extension before the start of the 21-22 season and the relationship is believed to have deteriorated from there.
Ayton would give the Pistons a pair of young former No. 1s in Cade Cunningham as well.
