Blake Griffin Surprised Clippers Sold For $2 Billion

Sep 22, 2014 12:42 PM

Blake Griffin was asked about whether he was surprised that the Los Angeles Clippers sold for $2 billion to Steve Ballmer.

"Yeah," Griffin said. "I thought it was gonna go for a lot. I thought it was gonna be in the billions. But I didn't think 2 billion."

Griffin also discussed how Donald Sterling used to bring women inside the Clippers' locker room after games.

"He would bring them in the locker room," Griffin said. "Guys would be in there. The showers are kind of elsewhere. I don't think they would really go back there. But he would bring people in the locker room while we were just in towels. One year he came in and led a "hip hip hooray" chant and held my arm up in the air. Then he went to another teammate and did the same thing. Guys just started scattering as fast as possible. [laughs]."

Charlie Villanueva To Sign With Mavericks After Deciding Between Dallas, Clippers

Sep 8, 2014 7:33 PM

Free agent forward Charlie Villanueva has decided to sign a one-year, veteran's minimum contract with the Dallas Mavericks, a league source told RealGM.

RealGM first reported on Monday morning that Villanueva was closing in on a decision between veteran-minumum offers from the Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers.

Villanueva, a nine-year NBA pro, plans to choose a team sometime this week, a source said. He’s held workouts for teams since the start of free agency in July.

Villanueva, 30, became a free agent after finishing a five-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.

In his first four NBA seasons, Villanueva established his commodity around the league as a long-range shooter and skilled offensive player at 6-foot-11. He averaged nearly 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 44.7 percent in a breakout season with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2008-09.

Villanueva averaged 4.6 points in 20 games last season, a finality to an inconsistent run with the Pistons.

Villanueva was the No. 7 draft pick in 2005 to the Toronto Raptors, with whom he played one season.

Free agent Julyan Stone will work out for the Lakers in Los Angeles this week, his second visit with the organization before meeting three other teams, league sources told RealGM.

Stone also has scheduled workouts with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat, sources said, attempting to solidify an NBA contract before training camps start. The Sacramento Kings remain a possible landing spot for Stone.

Stone held a workout with the San Antonio Spurs earlier in the week, and he’s received two lucrative offers from Chinese clubs.

In three NBA seasons, Stone has averaged 1.3 points, 1.1 assists and 44 percent shooting from the field in seven minutes per game. He was an undrafted signing for the Denver Nuggets in 2011, spent two years with the franchise and joined the Toronto Raptors last offseason. He was waived on July 7.
