Grizzlies Claim No Deal In The Works

Nov 30, 2008 5:56 PM

The Grizzlies claim that no trade is evident even though they have admitted having discussions with the Blazers recently.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the deal is essentially Mike Conley Jr. for Travis Outlaw.

A team source out of Memphis claims that talks will be ongoing, but the team isn't likely to make any moves before February.

Conley Reunited With Oden?

Nov 29, 2008 8:27 AM

Could Mike Conley Jr. be once again setting up passes to big man Greg Oden?

According to a report by Yahoo! sports, the Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies are in discussions which could see Conley headed to the Blazers in exchange for Travis Outlaw.

The talks have been ongoing for weeks, but one source close to the Blazers said Portland GM Kevin Pritchard remains hesitant about completing the deal and that a trade doesn?t appear imminent.

Even though the salaries match, it is unlikely that the deal would be straight up, with possibly Hakim Warrick and Javaris Crittenton being included from Memphis, and Sergio Rodriguez from Portland.

The Blazers have been active on several trade fronts, including discussions earlier this season with the Atlanta Hawks that would?ve included a package for point guard Mike Bibby. Those talks died when the Hawks started the season with five straight victories.

Milicic Admits He's Homesick

Nov 27, 2008 9:28 AM

Grizzles center Darko Milicic will be a free agent in the summer of 2010, and admitted on Wednesday that he could return to Europe.

"I lot of days I think that," Milicic said, "because the only way to be me is in Europe. I don't want to be a defensive player the rest of my career. It's not really what I want to do."

Six seasons and three teams after being the No. 2 overall pick behind LeBron James, Milicic has yet to fully adapt to the NBA game.

"In Europe, I can be a different player with the ball going through me," Milicic said. "Here, you take a shot and you just don't want to miss. You think too much.

"I want to get my confidence back on the offensive end. I want the ball to go through me so I can have a chance to miss without worrying about it. And I want a chance to make plays. (Europe) has good basketball, and it would be closer to home."

Grizzlies Looking To Deal Crittenton Or Warrick?

Nov 26, 2008 3:50 PM

The Grizzlies would like to improve their shooting, and players like Javaris Crittenton and Hakim Warrick appear to be their best trade bait.

"He has concerns with our team's shooting," General Manager Chris Wallace said of coach Marc Iavaroni. "I do as well. Whether it can be upgraded in the short term remains to be seen.

"Now, we're at a period in the NBA where teams are looking at doing deals more than they are in October and (earlier in) November. Who knows what could occur?"

Rookie O.J. Mayo leads Memphis in shooting percentage, at 43%.

Nov 25, 2008 4:48 AM

Manu Ginobili was back in uniform for the first time this season on Monday night, scoring 12 points in 11 minutes to help San Antonio to a 94-81 win in Memphis, the Associated Press is reporting.

I felt pretty good about it," said Ginobili. "I didn't rush it a lot. I took my time, found the open seam, made a couple of shots. I wasn't thinking about a great game on my first one, so I'm happy with what I did."

Manu Will Return Against Memphis

Nov 24, 2008 4:27 PM

Spurs' guard Manu Ginobili will return on Monday night against the Grizzlies after missing the first 12 games of the season with an ankle injury.

"It's great to hear," Ginobili said. "It's been enough time."

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich announced the decision after the team's morning shootaround. It is unknown how many minutes Ginobili will play against Memphis.

"I'm going to be out of shape, a little slower," said Ginobili. "But those are things you only get from playing. I feel like it works better for me getting 10 minutes of playing time than (spending) 20 minutes on a treadmill."

Deron Expected To Return Against Memphis

Nov 24, 2008 10:07 AM

Jazz guard Deron Williams is expected to return to the court on Wednesday night against the Grizzlies.

"I think that'll help us out," Ronnie Brewer said. "He's our leader, he's our captain. He means a lot to this team. I think guys feed off his intensity. He gets guys involved in the game and he makes it easy for a lot of those guys."

Williams will have missed 13 games assuming his returns on Wednesday night.

The point guard came back for two games earlier this month, only to realize his sprained ankle was not close to full strength.

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has made it clear to Williams to return only if he is 100 percent.

Grizzlies Want Gay, Mayo To Shoot Less

Nov 18, 2008 3:55 PM

Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni would like to see Rudy Gay and rookie O.J. Mayo shoot less in order to improve the team's offensive balance.

"That's why we have to somehow find a way to get balanced scoring with shot attempts," Iavaroni said. "We've got guys in the (150s,) and the next guy is in the 70s."

Iavaroni is asking his two offensive leaders to operate as effectively playmaking as they are scoring.

"We have to find that balance between shooting the open shot and making the extra pass," Iavaroni said. "We're taking too many contested 2-pointers. It's all one-on-one. Either you're open or you're not. But if the ball continues to move we'll get better shots. And we have to understand spacing. It's all a process."
