Marc Gasol Not Particularly Looking Forward To Outside Courtship Of Spurs, Knicks, Lakers, Others

Dec 26, 2014 1:04 PM

Marc Gasol admitted he is not particularly looking forward to free agency where he will likely be courted by the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and others.

"I've been already through one," he says of the summer of 2011, when as a restricted free agent he re-signed with the Grizzlies for $58 million over four years, "and I did not especially enjoy it. I don't know how I'm going to feel in July. I really don't. This is the next five years of my life and I'm going to go all in. Whatever team you play for, you've always got to feel like you represent that team, that you've got to play for it. Because that's the way we grew up in Spain. You play for the city. You play for a way of doing things. It's not about you. I do this for them. I play for the city, for the franchise or whatever. You've got to have that pride that comes with it."

The Memphis Grizzlies badly want to keep Gasol and Gasol has stated he wants to remain with the franchise.

"I'm pretty thankful for everything that happened," Gasol said.

Josh Smith Agrees To Sign With Rockets

Dec 24, 2014 1:24 PM

Josh Smith has agreed to sign with the Houston Rockets.

Smith was waived this week by the Detroit Pistons.

Smith has been promised a spot in the starting lineup and now has the opportunity to play beside former AAU teammate Dwight Howard. Smith only would consider clubs offering a starting spot, which limited his options to the Rockets and Miami Heat

Smith will likely sign a deal with the Rockets for the biannual exception of $2 million once he clears waivers at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings also had interest in Smith.

Ray Allen Contacted By Wide Range Of Teams, Including Grizzlies; Not At Stage To Decide On Future

Dec 13, 2014 5:06 PM

Ray Allen — the most coveted NBA free agent on the market — has heard from far beyond just five teams to consider, including interest from the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources told RealGM.

Allen’s agent, Jim Tanner, confirmed the wide range of interest on Saturday and added that the 6-foot-5 shooting guard has no timetable to make a decision on his playing future.

Despite a report on Saturday that he was choosing between the San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors, Allen has not yet reached the stage to decide on any team. Memphis has gone 18-4 this season and has an open roster spot that could be used toward securing another shooter to the rotation.

Earlier in the week, Warriors general manager Bob Myers told 95.7 in Oakland that his team has contacted Allen to gauge interest in signing with the franchise. Nearly every team with contending aspirations is believed to have reached out to Allen and his agent Tanner.

Over an 18-year NBA career, Allen, 39, has built a Hall of Fame run while playing for Milwaukee, Seattle, Boston and Miami. Allen has averaged 18.9 points for his career and is the league’s all-time leader in three-point shots made at 2,973.

Allen averaged 9.6 points in 73 games for the Heat last season. In Game 6 of the 2013 series against the Spurs, Allen knocked down one of the most critical shots in NBA Finals history.

Cavs Interested In Kosta Koufos, Willing To Deal Dion Waiters For Difference Maker

Dec 8, 2014 8:14 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in trading for Kosta Koufos, according to sources.

The Cavaliers are well aware landing a quality big man likely depends on selling on potential trade partners to take back Dion Waiters.

Koufos is an unrestricted free agent next summer. His camp has made it known to Grizzlies management that it has less than pleased with the limited role carved out for the 7-footer over the past two season, according to sources.

Mike Miller Hoped To Play 3-4 More Seasons, Finish Career With Grizzlies

Dec 4, 2014 1:16 PM

Mike Miller hoped to re-sign with the Memphis Grizzlies after the season after averaging 7.1 points in 82 games for the team last season.

“I thought I was going to finish my career there,” Miller said. “I really did. I was happy there. I wanted to play another three, four years, [and I] thought I could get that done in Memphis.”

Instead, the Grizzlies pursued and signed Vince Carter in free agency, which essentially took away Miller’s roster spot.

Miller then joined LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
