Dion Waiters May Need Offseason Surgery On Ankle

Dec 27, 2017 9:49 AM

Dion Waiters may need to undergo surgery on his chronically sprained left ankle in the offseason.

"Until I take care of it and do what I’m supposed to do with it," Waiters said in the locker room before his team faced the Orlando Magic at AmericanAirlines Arena, "even if I have the littlest sprain, it’s going to be like severe."

Waiters missed the final 13 games of the 16-17 season due to the sprain but elected not to undergo surgery this past offseason. Waiters would need a six month recovery.

Waiters signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the Heat in July.

"It plays in my mind, but there's nothing I can do now," he said. "I'm already playing.

"At this point, you got to see what's best. But I won't write it off . . . especially if I'm going to keep going through the same thing, even with like little tweaks and things like that.

"When the season is over, after the playoffs and things like that, I'll sit down with my family, my agent and we'll going to take care of it."

Spurs Wish They Could Have Kept Udonis Haslem In 2003

Dec 7, 2017 11:09 AM

Before beginning his long career with the Miami Heat in which he's won three titles, Udonis Haslem was a member of the San Antonio Spurs’ summer league team in 2003 after spending a season in France.

“He was here, we had him, we loved him,” Gregg Popovich said. “There was just no room. He left and found a great home, obviously, but those stories are all over the league.”

Haslem is in his 15th NBA season.

Kevin Durant: I Own Some Property On Waiters Island

Dec 4, 2017 10:05 AM

Kevin Durant and Dion Waiters were teammates with the Thunder, and Durant continues to believe in the shooting guard's ability.

“I got a mansion,” Durant said. “I own some property on ‘Waiters Island.’ It’s just me and him that live there. He knows where it is. We both know.”

Waiters missed Miami's earlier game against the Warriors.

“It’s gonna be fun. He’s playing great basketball, and I’m so proud of him. I know it’s going to be a fun matchup between him and I," said Durant. "I don’t wanna call him my little brother, but he’s my brother of a younger age. I learned a lot from him. He learned a lot from me. It was a great, great relationship that we had and it’s gonna be a fun matchup.”
