The Miami Heat have acquired Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets for Kyle Lowry and a lottery protected first round pick in 2027. If the pick doesn't convey, it becomes unprotected in 2028.

The Hornets have no immediate plans to work on a buyout with Lowry and will see if they can trade him ahead of the deadline.

With the trade, the Heat go under the second apron.

Rozier is signed at $24.9 million next season and $26.6 million in 25-26. 

In 30 games this season, Rozier is averaging a career high 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists. 

The Miami Heat are exploring trades for veteran guard Kyle Lowry. Miami is offering Lowry's expiring $29.7 million contract as way to upgrade their roster.

The Heat recently moved Lowry to the bench, as his play has slipped this season. Lowry said he understand the decision, but he's disappointed with it.

“For me as a professional, of course I’m disappointed to have to adjust,” Lowry said. “But I haven’t played well in the last couple weeks, and I understand that coach has made a decision to try to move and shake some things and get in a different flow. So, as a professional, of course it’s an adjustment. But I have to make it and figure out how to help the team win.”

Erik Spoelstra said the move, nor Miami's poor play, wasn't about Lowry. Spoelstra said it was time to try something different.

“We are not where we want to be,” Spoelstra said. “That’s not an indictment on one player. Kyle has been great as a starter and really impactful last year off the bench. So this really isn’t about him. This is about us trying to get to a higher level on both ends of the court, but also offensively. Combinations do matter, rotations do matter, lineups that bring out the best in each other do matter. And I’m still in the process of trying to help the team figure that out.”

Terry Rozier has emerged as a possible trade candidate ahead of the deadline as he continues a career season.

Rozier has a known preference to join the Miami Heat if he's traded by the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Rozier has two more seasons on a four-year, $97 million extension. 

Aaron Turner is the agent for Rozier. 

Lauri Markkanen and Bam Adebayo have been named the NBA's Players of the Week for Week 12.

Markkanen averaged 24.5 points and 11.0 rebound as the Utah Jazz went 4-0.

Adebayo averaged 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists as the Miami Heat went 3-1.

The Miami Heat will unveil a statue of Dwyane Wade outside of Kaseya Center later this year.

"When we retired his jersey in February 2020, I said Dwyane was the face of this franchise forever and I meant it. Dwyane's legacy is a towering one not only for the Miami Heat but for Miami-Wade county. I can't think of a better way to honor him than by memorializing that legacy," said Pat Riley.

The team held a halftime ceremony to honor Wade's induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday.

The statue will be unveiled in fall of 2024. 

Jaime Jaquez Jr. will miss the Miami Heat's two-game road trip due to a groin strain.

Jacquez left the Heat's win over the Hornets on Sunday with the injury.

"I don't think it's as severe, but a lot of prevention we're looking at right now," said Jacquez. 

The Atlanta Hawks appear determined to trade Dejounte Murray by the deadline and he's been discussed in a number of scenarios already.

The Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons are five teams expected to engage the Hawks on a trade for Murray leading to the deadline.

While the San Antonio Spurs have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Murray, they do not currently have the types of pieces Atlanta is believed to be looking for in a deal. The Brooklyn Nets don't appear to be actively pursuing Murray.

Murray signed a four-year, $114 million extension last offseason, which begins ahead of the 24-25 season.

Murray's contract is considered a good one in the NBA's new second apron environment. 

The Miami Heat continue to have "bona fide" interest in trading for Donovan Mitchell, sources tell Marc Stein.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have maintained a position that they have no interest at all in entertaining a Mitchell trade. Mitchell can become a free agent in 2025 if he doesn't sign an extension during the 2024 offseason.

The Heat previously pursued Mitchell in 2022, as well as Damian Lillard in 2023.

While the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets will continue to be mentioned in any trade for Mitchell, multiple executives believe the Heat are the "prime team to watch for" due to how well they would complement his game and his defensive liabilities. 

Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat have agreed to an eight-year extension worth more than $120 million.

Spoelstra became head coach of the Heat in 2008 and has reached The Finals six times and has won two NBA championships 

Chet Holmgren and Jaime Jaquez Jr. were named the Western and Eastern Conference Rookies of the Month for December.

Holmgren averaged 17.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks for the month, with Jaquez averaging 16.1 points and 3.8 rebounds.

Ty Lue and Joe Mazzulla were also named Coaches of the Month for December in their respective conferences.

Lue coached the Clippers to an 11-2 record, with Mazzulla's Celtics going 12-2.
