LeBron Denies Talking To Wade About Reuniting As Teammates

Jan 1, 2015 3:44 AM

During their on-court chat after the Christmas Day game, LeBron James may have communicated to Dwyane Wade that the two could reunite soon.

According to an apparently scrubbed version of the exchange that isolates the dialogue by reducing background noise, James seems to say, "Like I said, if we aren't better this year, we're gonna reunite again and do some bigger and better things, all right?"  Wade responds affirmatively.

James commented on the speculation on Wednesday, saying it was about getting together off the court and not about leaving Cleveland or playing with Wade again.

"I've seen the clip, just like you've seen the clip," James said.  "I don't know exactly what I said at the beginning either.  I know I said, 'We'll get back together and do some bigger and better things,' but it had nothing to do about basketball.  I mean, if I was going to tell him that, I'd tell him the night before.  Come on guys, I'm not stupid.  I know I didn't go to college but I'm not stupid.  I wouldn't say that on Christmas with a hundred cameras around.  I would have told him the night before at his house.  But, it's just me so I get it, I get it.  But it had nothing to do with leaving here and reuniting with him.  It had everything to do with just talking about other things more than just basketball.  Everybody gets so involved in basketball; our friendship -- obviously you guys know -- is bigger than basketball.  So, you know, our last four years couldn't be bigger and better even if we did get back together.  But, whatever, it's crazy."

Chris Bosh Wants To Play In Post More As Heat Break Habits Of Playing With LeBron

Dec 30, 2014 10:48 AM

Chris Bosh would like to not play with so much frequency on the perimeter and move into the post now that LeBron James is not the focal point of the Miami Heat offense.

"Old habits die hard," Bosh said. "It's what I've been doing for four years. That's what we needed, we needed to spread the floor. Now, we can kind of play in the interior a little more. We don't have that 6-8, 260-pound point guard that can get in the lane."

Missing eight games because of a calf strain allowed Bosh to reflect on what his game was lacking.

The Heat want Bosh to be more of a post presence.

"Just getting closer to the basket," Bosh said. "I think I've been outside a little bit too much. It's a little easier to kind of float around and shoot a couple more threes but I need to get back to my game, which is 15 feet and in. I want to get to the post a lot more and I think I'm a lot deadlier when I'm closer to the basket. Those two-point shots are a lot better than 20 feet."

LeBron Wonders Why Players Receive More Scrutiny Than Owners

Dec 26, 2014 10:15 AM

LeBron James had a question of his own following a series of questions from the media after his first return to the Miami Heat as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"The question I have, which is kind of bothering me sometimes, is when a player decides to decide his own fate, there is always questions about it?" James said. "And, 'Why did this guy do that, do that and do this?' When an organization decides to go elsewhere for a player, it's that they did what's best for the team. Let's figure that out some time."

When asked why he believes players are chastised and not owners, James said: "I don't know. I'm done."

James was told that Dwyane Wade expressed something similar a day earlier. James just shook his head and kept walking.

"It's tough in this league," Wade said on Wednesday. "When a player makes a decision, and however you make it, there is always backlash. But when an organization makes it, it's the right thing for an organization to do. And it's fine. Josh Smith just got cut. It was the right thing for the Pistons to do.

"It's fine. LeBron James or players make decisions in free agency, then it becomes a different situation."

Josh Smith Agrees To Sign With Rockets

Dec 24, 2014 1:24 PM

Josh Smith has agreed to sign with the Houston Rockets.

Smith was waived this week by the Detroit Pistons.

Smith has been promised a spot in the starting lineup and now has the opportunity to play beside former AAU teammate Dwight Howard. Smith only would consider clubs offering a starting spot, which limited his options to the Rockets and Miami Heat

Smith will likely sign a deal with the Rockets for the biannual exception of $2 million once he clears waivers at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings also had interest in Smith.

Rockets Emerge As Favorites To Sign Josh Smith

Dec 23, 2014 10:41 AM

The Houston Rockets have improved their position as frontrunner to sign Josh Smith.

Beyond Smith's close friend Dwight Howard, there's confidence among Rockets' players that they'll be able to sign him.

The Rockets tried to acquire Smith in the 2013 offseason, but were unable to put together a sign-and-trade deal with the Atlanta Hawks. Before ultimately signing a four-year $56 million deal with Detroit, Smith had long had interest in finding a way to join the Rockets, sources said.

Houston can use its biannual exception, worth $2.077 million annually, to sign Smith.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat also have interest in Smith.

Dwyane Wade Didn't Try To Convince LeBron To Re-Sign With Heat

Dec 22, 2014 10:44 AM

Dwyane Wade hopes the Miami Heat fans give LeBron James an appreciative response in his first return visit with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas Day.

Wade said he never tried to recruit James to remain with the Heat, treating him more as a friend than a teammate.

Wade and James were together in Las Vegas before he announced his decision to sign with the Cavs.

"We had already planned to go to Vegas earlier in the year," Wade said. "[LeBron's] camp was out there at the time, and I was out there with D-Wright. It was perfect timing to be out there with two of my best friends. So that summer, it was already planned. When it came to the decision that had to be made, I kind of knew a little bit. I could feel it a little bit. But I didn't know it 100 percent until we talked. But I could feel it. I knew it was tough on him. It was probably harder because I was around, because it was a tough time to make that decision for him. And then, one of the toughest parts was because of me and the relationship we had and stuff like that."

Wade and James won two championships together and their friendship will last into retirement.

"That's all I ever will be is Dwyane the friend," Wade said. "Dwyane the teammate, I'm not that guy. I knew whenever it comes to somebody having to do what's best for them, I'm always going to take myself out of it and give them the best advice I feel I can give. I'm not going to be biased and give them what I think is going to be best for me. I'm going to give them what I feel is best for them, and I've always been that way in any situation. I tried to be selfless. I took being his teammate out of it and I was just his friend. It was as simple as saying, 'Do what’s best for LeBron James, because everybody is going to benefit from you. You stay in Miami, we benefit from you. Wherever you go, do what's best for you, because wherever you play, somebody is going to benefit off of you. So you have to be happy with your situation.' "
