LeBron, Bosh, Wade Give Riley Window To Improve Miami Supporting Cast

Jun 30, 2014 11:07 PM

LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade plan on offering Pat Riley a window to carry out his plan on upgrading their supporting cast, according to sources.

All three players have opted out of their deals to become free agents.

The Heat began their offseason moves by acquiring the draft rights to Shabazz Napier, who James is known to be extremely fond of as a player.

James is also expecting a max contract, while Bosh and Wade will likely sign for less. Wade is expected to take significantly less money.

"Everybody has their [contract] number and has left a little bit of room to let [Riley] maneuver," one source briefed on the contract discussions said.

As one general manager told Yahoo Sports, "Right now, it's clear they're buying time for Riley to go out and hit the market."

Rich Paul has avoided any communication with teams ahead of James' free agency in order to abide by NBA rules on holding talks before the official start period of 12:01 AM on Tuesday.

LeBron Seeks Max Salary, Will Let Agent Handle Initial Meetings

Jun 30, 2014 1:26 PM

LeBron James is seeking a maximum salary and initial meetings with teams will be held by his agent Rich Paul. Sam Amick of USA Today first reported news of Paul handling the meetings on Sunday.

In 2010, James scheduled six meetings with teams at his offices in Cleveland over the first three days of July.

James' max salary is projected to start at $22.2 million for 14-15.

James' demands for contract length are in flux and he has previously indicated that flexibility is important to him.

Suns Plan Aggressive Pursuit For LeBron James

Jun 29, 2014 1:35 PM

The Phoenix Suns are planning an aggressive pursuit of LeBron James when free agency begins on Tuesday.

The Suns have the ability to offer two full max contract slots, plus a roster with talented young players.

James has privately expressed a desire to play with Carmelo Anthony, which the Suns can offer without gutting a roster or asking the players to accept a reduction in pay.

The Suns have $33.5 million in salary cap space and could also create an additional $10 million in space without unloading Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic and Miles Plumlee.

Within hours of free agency starting on Tuesday, James ($20.7 million) and Anthony ($22.4 million) have max contract starting salaries that are easily reachable for the Suns.

The Suns also have three first round picks in 2015, which could help improve the roster whether they're traded for veterans or used on young talent.

James' agent, Rich Paul, also represents Bledsoe.

Heat Create NBA-Record $55M In Cap Space

Jun 28, 2014 9:45 PM

LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem have all opted out of their contracts for the 14-15 season with the Miami Heat, which will create an NBA-record $55 million in available cap space.

The cap space doesn't technically become available until the players are re-signed, or have their Bird Rights renounced.

Wade will opt out of two years and $41.8 million, Bosh will opt out of two years and $42.6 million and Haslem will not exercise his player option of $4.6 million.

Henry Thomas represents all three players. Thomas later said on Saturday, however, that a final decision had not yet been reached by Bosh.

Bosh will head into free agency willing to accept a pay cut from the $20 million he was owed next year, sources said. Haslem is looking for a multiyear deal that will assure him more guaranteed money than what he originally was owed, though he's also willing to a pay cut.

The flurry of opt-outs to create cap room also makes the Heat eligible to use the $2.5 million room exception in a separate deal to add a role player.

Wade and Bosh decided to opt out after meeting with James on Wednesday.

The trio have collaborated on their contracts dating back to 2006 when they decided to pass on five-year contracts to sign three-year extensions.

Dwyane Wade Exercises Early Termination Option With Heat

Jun 28, 2014 4:57 PM

Dwyane Wade has opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat.

LeBron James exercised his Early Termination Option earlier in the week and Chris Bosh will also opted out of his contract.

The Heat could have $55 million in cap space to work with in the offseason.

Pat Riley said in a statement: “Today we were notified of Dwyane’s intention to opt-out of his contract and Udonis’ intention to not opt into his contract, making both players free agents. Dwyane has been the cornerstone of our organization for over a decade, and we hope he remains a part of the Heat family for life. Udonis has been the heartbeat of this team for 11 years. He has sacrificed countless times to make this organization successful, and he is the epitome of what this organization stands for. We look forward to meeting with Dwyane and Udonis and their agent in the coming days to discuss our future together.”

Bucher Retracts Report Of Bosh Opting Out With Raptors Interested

Jun 27, 2014 8:59 PM

Update: Ric Bucher has retracted his reports from Friday afternoon and Thursday evening in regards to Kyle Lowry going to the Heat.

Here is his statement on Twitter:

My deepest and sincere apologies. My report on Lowry and a S&T between the Raptors-Heat is wrong. I should've known better. I could not be more embarrassed. I can't explain why someone would go the lengths "my source" did to set me up, but that's irrelevant. I allowed my zeal to break a story take too much for granted. I'd like to think I'm better than that. Yesterday and today I was not.

Below is is what Bucher reported as we transcribed into a Wiretap.

-----------

Ric Bucher is reporting that Kyle Lowry and the Miami Heat will eventually agree upon terms and that Chris Bosh may return to the Toronto Raptors as part of the deal.

Bosh is expected to opt out of his current contract as LeBron James previously did, according to a source.

The Raptors intend to meet with Bosh about his interest in returning to the franchise he played for between 2003 and 2010.

Bosh could receive a longer-term deal and a more significant role if he were to return to the Raptors. Many GMs and executives around the NBA have believed Bosh would be the most likely member of the Heat to leave the franchise should the Big Three be broken up.
