Adam Silver: Resolving Bucks' New Arena 'Obvious Issue' For NBA

Sep 19, 2013 2:22 AM

Milwaukee Bucks officials, owner Herb Kohl and other city leaders have consistently stated the BMO Harris Bradley Center is outdated and not fit for an NBA team, and Adam Silver agreed and made clear that it is a major priority for the league.

“One obvious issue we all have to deal with is we need a new arena in Milwaukee,” Silver said.

Silver said he supports the efforts of Kohl and the Bucks to keep the team viable and in Milwaukee.

Silver added Kohl’s ownership of the Bucks is one of the team’s great strengths and that Kohl is committed to keeping the team in Milwaukee.

NBA Takes Teams Off Sales Market In Preperation For New TV Deal

Sep 10, 2013 5:51 PM

The NBA currently has no teams for sale and there are no plans to put any organizations on the market with a new lucrative television deal looming.

Several teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, have been pulled off the market recently. The Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors had also been previously rumored to be available.

"As we look at the coming domestic television deal and a great playoffs and Finals, there's a great buzz around the league right now," Adam Silver said Tuesday at the Bloomberg Sports Business Summit. "There aren't any teams for sale but if there were [the price] would be robust."

This is a significant departure from the last three-plus years when teams were selling both cheaply and quickly as nine different teams sold, many at reduced values.

Silver said Tuesday that for the first time there will be a committee of owners formed to oversee the TV contract talks.

It is believed that this new era of the league will give the owners more input with the commissioner.

"There's probably calls for more owner involvement than we've had historically," Silver said. "There's a new generation of owners who've become involved in the league. There's more a sense of activist owners ... these days led by Mark Cuban and others there are more full-time owners. It's a recognition that even for very wealthy people, it's a much larger percentage of their portfolio."

Cavaliers, Bucks Considering Putting Names Of Season Ticket Holders On Playing Floor

Sep 9, 2013 11:58 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks are waiting for approval from the NBA to put the names of season-ticket holders onto their playing floors.

The plan would give another benefit to their year-round membership and fan loyalty clubs.

The Cavaliers are proposing putting holders' names on the sideline aprons, while the Bucks would put the names near the halfcourt line on the playing floor.

Many teams have sold bricks outside arenas and stadiums.

Bucks Trying To Remain Competitive While Rebuilding

Sep 6, 2013 3:24 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks are using a strategy in building their roster similar to that of the Indiana Pacers, a rare and bold move in an NBA that seems to reward accumulating high draft picks using the Oklahoma City Thunder model.

"Guys are going to say, 'I want to be a part of this because they're winning,' or you need to be a team, like Cleveland, that gets two No. 1 picks or three or four top-five picks, and a guy says, 'I see what they have,” Bucks general manager John Hammond said.

The Bucks hired David Morway this offseason, who was a longtime member of the Pacers' front office of the Pacers.

“We're trying to say with Larry Sanders -- one of the top defenders in the league -- with Ersan [Ilyasova], with veterans like Zaza [Pachulia], Luke [Ridnour], Carlos [Delfino], with young players like O.J. [Mayo], Brandon [Knight], John [Henson], Gary [Neal], Ekpe [Udoh], and Giannis [Antetokounmpo], I know we may not win a world championship today, but I do think we can be competitive and continue to build with draft picks and cap space” Hammond said.

“There isn’t one way to build a franchise,” Morway said. “You can build a team [by pursuing high draft picks], but there’s a lot that goes on between the concept and the execution.”

The Bucks hope that maintaining their competitiveness creates cohesiveness.

“To build a winning culture ... you can’t turn it on and off,” Morway says. “Players see that.”
