Giannis Antetokounmpo On Bucks Coach: I Don't Make That Decision

Jan 25, 2024 8:41 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked if the Milwaukee Bucks firing Adrian Griffin felt different because he was a part of Griffin's hiring. Antetokounmpo gave a candid answer about his relationship with Griffin, as well as his involvement in front office decisions.

"Have I been in a position be asked "What do you think about that?" or "What do you think about this?" Yeah, many times," Antetokounmpo said. "But I was not involved in the hiring of Coach Griff."

The Bucks star also detailed his close relationship with Griffin, including inviting his former coach to his wedding. Antetokounmpo added that although he gives input when asked, he's not the one making the decisions for the Bucks.

"I don't make that decision. Don't get me wrong, I wish I did, you know? I wish I did. But I don't," Antetokounmpo said. "I really, really don't. I just try to stick with basketball."

Bucks Could Trade Pat Connaughton, Cam Payne To Improve Perimeter Defense

Jan 24, 2024 10:59 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks are exploring several trades to improve their perimeter defense, sources told Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports.

The team could use Pat Connaughton and Cam Payne, as well as their second-round pick they received from the Blazers, as trade bait.

Connaughton and Payne's combined salaries could land Matisse Thybulle or PJ Tucker, with Alex Caruso as the most ideal outcome.

The Bucks have also been linked with Dejounte Murray and Bruce Brown. The Raptors are looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Brown.

The team also pursued Bojan Bogdanovic at the trade deadline last year.

When the Bucks hired Griffin in the offseason, they also strongly considered Nick Nurse and Kenny Atkinson.

Bucks' Decision On Adrian Griffin More 'Accumulation Of Mini Red Flags' Than 'One Particular Thing'

Jan 24, 2024 11:21 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks made the difficult decision to move on from Adrian Griffin just a few months after hiring him as head coach despite a 30-13 record.

"I think the way it's been described to me is there wasn't necessarily something that sparked this or one particular thing," said Jamal Collier on The Hoop Collective podcast. "Clearly just an accumulation of a lot of mini red flags and signs over the course of the season."

While the Bucks were frustrated with some elements of Griffin's coaching, Collier said that he was well-liked on a personal level.

"I think, in general, the players... there was not throughout some of these butting head incidents or questions of how their scheme was working, I think the players enjoyed Griff," added Collier later in the podcast. "People liked working with him. He's a nice guy. People tried to give him as much benefit of the doubt that he was going to get better and grow and work. It just kind of is the championship expectations and demands that begin with a player like Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and you have so much invested in this time financially, draft pick wise with each year having to matter, I think that all sort of equaled to a pressure cooker."
