Timberwolves Could Bring Peković To NBA

May 23, 2010 6:54 PM

The Timberwolves are looking at the possibility of bringing Nikola Peković to the NBA for the 2010-11 season.

Peković was drafted 31st overall in 2008 NBA Draft by the Timberwolves.

He has played two years in Greece and won an Euroleague title. InterBasket reports that the 24-year-old is considering jumping to the United States.

Peković's buyout clause is low, which shouldn't make it a problem for Minneosta.

Flynn Wants To See Wolves Take Johnson

May 21, 2010 7:20 AM

Timberwolves point guard Jonny Flynn wants to see the team draft Syracuse forward Wesley Johnson with the fourth overall pick.

"Honestly, as soon as he saw the draft balls he called me and yelled out 'teammate' to me," Johnson told the Star Tribune of Flynn. "He was already banking on me coming. He was excited about it, but we'll just have to see what happens."

Johnson practiced one season with Flynn, who was drafted by Minnesota in 2009. He never played a game with Flynn because Johnson sat out the point guard's senior season after transferring from Iowa State.

"I think that'd be a great fit," Johnson said of the Wolves. "Jonny's a teammate of mine. I never got to play with him, but I'd get to play with him if they do draft me. That'd be a big positive for me."

Timberwolves Might Move Up For Turner

May 19, 2010 4:10 PM

If the NBA's Draft Lottery played out true, the Timberwolves would have landed the second overall pick.

However, they will pick fourth after the 76ers and Wizards leapfrogged them in the draft order.

Minnesota would have likely taken Ohio State's Evan Turner with the No. 2 pick, but ESPN's Chad Ford writes that general manager David Kahn might still try to get Turner.

"But it's also possible Minnesota GM David Kahn will be looking to trade up to No. 2 in an effort to still select Turner, who the team is very high on," Ford wrote on Wednesday.

Timberwolves general manager David Kahn spoke with forward Darko Milicic recently and he's still considering a return to the NBA.

"It's my understanding that Darko would like to come back with us," Kahn said. "He sees pieces to build around here and knows further pieces are coming, and he would like to be a part of it."

Aldrich Would Like To Play For Hometown Wolves

May 15, 2010 1:51 AM

Cole Aldrich is from Minnesota and he appears hopeful that he might end up with his hometown team.

"One of the things the Wolves lack on the defensive end is making it hard for people to score inside," Aldrich said at promotional appearance at Tiffany's Sports Lounge in St. Paul's Highland Park community. "I know turning the Wolves around won't be an overnight process, but I feel I could be an ignitor to help the program get back on its feet. This is my hometown."

Kevin Love and Aldrich have developed a close friendship, adding to Aldrich's interest in the Wolves. As much as Aldrich would like to pursue an NBA career in his hometown, it is uncertain if the Wolves will have a chance to select him.

Kahn Returns From Seeing Rubio In Paris

May 12, 2010 11:33 AM

David Kahn was in Paris last week to watch Ricky Rubio in the Euroleague Final Four.

"Ricky played really well in the first game; he arguably was the best player on the floor," Kahn said Tuesday. "In the second game, he played a solid first half, but in the second half he had problems with the other team's defensive pressure. He got a little loose with the ball and didn't play very much in the second half."

Rubio, who still has a five-week season in his Spanish league, has a $1.3 million buyout in his five-year Barcelona contract.

Kahn and Wolves coach Kurt Rambis will be in Spain later this month to watch Rubio and other European players, but word is Rubio is intent on playing next year with his current team, making the buyout issue moot.

The Wolves appear to be expecting him in training camp ahead of the 2011-12 season.

Rubio Glad He Stayed Overseas

May 10, 2010 7:59 AM

Ricky Rubio is glad he decided to stay in Europe this season, rather than make the jump to the NBA.

Rubio, who was drafted by the Timberwolves last June, helped lead FC Barcelona to the Euroleague title on Sunday.

He could join the NBA if he decides to exercise his opt-out clause in a year's time.

"To be in the Final Four of the Euroleague, this is where I want to be," said Rubio. "I've worked hard to make it to this goal. And this shows me that I chose the best option. I am so happy on this team. These players help me improve every day and so do the assistant coaches and other staff."
