Demetris Nichols Talks With Grizzlies, Others About NBA Return

Jun 30, 2015 10:23 PM

Demetris Nichols — the Euroleague’s reigning leader in three-point shooting percentage — has had discussions with teams, including the Memphis Grizzlies, about a potential NBA return, a league source told RealGM.

Nichols, who played two seasons in the NBA between 2007 and 2009, shot 57.5 percent from three-point range this past season with CSKA Moscow. For Nichols, there is an interest to attempt an NBA comeback from the Euroleague, and some dialogue on the other end. In CSKA's platoon rotations, Nichols scored 4.6 points in 13 minutes per game.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and New Orleans Pelicans have also inquired on Nichols, a source said.

Out of Syracuse, Nichols was the No. 53 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft to the Portland Trail Blazers. The 6-foot-6 guard has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, NBA D-League and several overseas clubs.

Nemanja Bjelica, Timberwolves Discuss Three-Year Deal While Exploring Options

Jun 27, 2015 11:23 AM

Euroleague star Nemanja Bjelica is in serious discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves on an approximate three-year, $12 million-plus deal, but the two sides have been exploring all options, league sources told RealGM.

Bjelica, 27, has moved toward breaking into the NBA after being named the Euroleague MVP this past season. At 6-foot-10, Bjelica is a skilled forward who could play three positions at the NBA level.

Nevertheless, the Timberwolves likely need to make further moves to incorporate Bjelica and allow him to transition with confidence in his role. Around the league, there’s active trade interest in the Serbian forward, sources said.

A finalized deal with Bjelica and the Timberwolves could happen as soon as next week.

Bjelica averaged 11.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists for Fenerbahçe Ülker, shooting 54 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from three-point range.

Karl-Anthony Towns Hasn't Received Draft Promise From Wolves

Jun 23, 2015 12:10 PM

If the Minnesota Timberwolves have decided upon Karl-Anthony Towns as their selection with the first overall pick, they haven't informed him of it yet.

"If I had a promise I would go start eating ice cream and getting fat," Towns joked to The Associated Press on Monday evening. "There is absolutely no promise at all. Right now I'm just trying to see where I'll be playing. I have no idea."

The Timberwolves were the only team for which Towns held an individual workout, and he said Monday he enjoyed meeting officials and getting a brief tour of downtown Minneapolis.

"Flip Saunders is a great coach and a great guy. Glen Taylor is the same way. He's a great human being," Towns said. "We just talked more about how do I feel about basketball and just about life, just trying to learn more about my personality."

Towns doesn't seem to prefer one team over another even with the Los Angeles Lakers picking No. 2.

"It doesn't matter to me where I play," Towns said. "It matters what you do at the place you play at. It doesn't matter how successful or how unsuccessful a team is. It can all change with one pick."

Karl-Anthony Towns, Timberwolves Schedule Meeting Friday

Jun 17, 2015 4:40 PM

Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns, the favorite for the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, will visit the Timberwolves in Minneapolis on Friday, league sources told RealGM.

For now, it is unclear if Towns will participate in a private workout for the Timberwolves on Friday, but the two sides have finalized the meeting.

Towns ascended into a clear favorite for the top selection after spending one season at Kentucky. At 6-foot-11, Towns possesses a tantalizing skill set and frame.

Towns averaged 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds this past season.

Flip Saunders traveled to Thousand Oaks, California last week to watch a workout for Karl-Anthony Towns.

Despite being a supporter of Jahlil Okafor all season, sources assured Chad Ford that Saunders will ultimately decide to select Towns.

Okafor remains in the picture and was in Minnesota this week.

The Wolves have also tried to get D'Angelo Russell in for a workout, as well as evaluating Emmanuel Mudiay and Kristaps Porzingis.

Emmanuel Mudiay Sets Lakers, Minnesota Workouts; T'Wolves Express Consideration For No. 1 Pick

Jun 5, 2015 2:44 AM

Emmanuel Mudiay has scheduled only two predraft team workouts so far: the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday and Minnesota Timberwolves on June 20 and possibly sooner, with the T’Wolves convincing the 6-foot-5 guard that he’ll be under serious consideration with the No. 1 overall pick, sources told RealGM.

Minnesota recently reached out to Mudiay and its front office laid out a vision for a roster with him, Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, sources said.

Mudiay spent the season in the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 18 points in 12 games while sitting out for a stretch due to an ankle injury.

Mudiay has no workouts scheduled yet with the Philadelphia 76ers or New York Knicks, but is willing to visit every team in the top five, including the Orlando Magic. The Sacramento Kings have the No. 6 pick.

Mudiay, 19, went to high school in Texas and had committed to SMU before leaving to turn pro in China.

Ricky Rubio: I'm Staying In Minnesota

Jun 4, 2015 5:17 PM

Ricky Rubio popped up in trade rumors this week during a chat by ESPN's Chad Ford.

"Yes, I knew nothing about it. I called my agents to check if they knew something. They that it's not true. They denied everything. There will always be rumors."

Rubio signed an extension before the start of the 14-15 season.

"When a rumor pops up, not always, but normally there is something behind. Personally, what I know is that neither me or my agents have done it. I doubt the franchise would like to leak this because they have always instilled a lot of confidence in me. Talking to Flip Saunders, he would have said it to me. I think we have a very good relationship, very good feelings, and we have never talked about anything like that.

"For what I can say, it’s not true. But in this league, except LeBron and another three or four players, everybody is tradeable. You never know. Kevin Love wanted to get out and Cleveland traded the #1 pick, which was very well regarded by the franchise. You never know, but I’m staying in Minnesota."

Wolves Willing To Trade Ricky Rubio In Right Deal

Jun 2, 2015 1:43 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Ricky Rubio agreed upon a $55 million contract extension last October, but the team is believed to be willing to consider dealing him in the right deal.

Rubio was limited last season by an ankle injury.

Rubio is still just 24 and is one of the game's most gifted passers, but he has yet to develop his perimeter shot.

The Wolves are also high on D'Angelo Russell.
