Sixers Tried To Trade Up For Yi

Nov 28, 2007 11:54 AM

Yi Jianlian is doing for the Bucks what Sixers President/General Manager Billy King must have envisioned when he led a scouting contingent first to China, then to Southern California: to make certain Yi, agent Dan Fagen and the Chinese Federation understood the depth of their interest.

King tried - hard - to move up in the draft to select Yi or, failing that, to work out a postdraft trade with the Bucks. Even though Bucks' General Manager Larry Harris said trading the 6-11 forward/center "was never an option," sources have indicated that the Sixers had a few different packages on the table.

Sixers Are Fielding Offers For Miller

Nov 25, 2007 10:38 AM

The Sixers are open to fielding offers for Andre Miller (Cleveland and Miami are seen as his prime suitors) and plan to give Lou Williams more minutes at the point.

In the meantime, Andre Iguodala, who didn't get the contract extension he was looking for, is taking more shots and turning the ball over more than anyone on the team and complaining more, too. "His body language is worse than Iverson's ever was," reports one teammate.

Iguodala: Something Must Change

Nov 23, 2007 4:41 AM

Andre Iguodala clarified Tuesday night's statement where he said said maybe the 76ers have to "make a move", saying that he did not mean a coaching change or or trade.

"That can be anything from switching anybody from the starting lineup, that's all five guys, including myself," he said, trying gamely to look ahead to tonight's game against the Detroit Pistons in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Iguodala's words, born of frustration and disappointment, came after a 116-101 loss in Washington in which the Sixers trailed by as many as 37 points and coach Maurice Cheeks described the defense as "horrendous" and "poor."

And that loss came on the heels of a victory over Portland that they miraculously pulled out after falling behind by 25.

"I think when you have a couple of games where you're playing like that and most of it is coming from the starting group, you've got to make a move," Iguodala said. "Coach will say we've got to do something different. Well, something different might be switching the lineup or something like that."

Sixers' Iguodala Blasts Team After Loss

Nov 21, 2007 8:13 AM

Following the Sixers' listless 116-101 loss to the Gilbert Arenas-less Wizards on Tuesday night at the Verizon Center, Andre Iguodala let it be known that he's not a happy camper.

Iguodala (3-for-11, 10 points) was displeased by the performance of the Sixers (3-7), who have lost five of their last six. They trailed the Wizards by 37 points late in the third quarter.

?It's the same old thing,? Iguodala said. ?It's like mass confusion out there on the court. The whole game, we were never really on the same page. They played basic basketball, and we just were awful.?

Iguodala pointed to the Sixers' poor spacing on offense, subpar defensive rotations and traps, and said the Sixers ?[stink] in practice, too.?

?We've got to do something, anything ? maybe make a move,? Iguodala said. ?I don't know. This is getting out of hand. We've got to do something to turn things around. We're not doing a good job as players. Everybody in the organization needs to step up.?

Injured Green Decides To Play

Nov 14, 2007 5:24 AM

Veteran guard Willie Green worked out during the morning shoot-around and last night before the 76ers game against the Dallas Mavericks and decided he could play.

Green has a left hip flexor strain suffered during Sunday's 93-72 loss to the New Orleans Hornets. The injury occurred in the first quarter, but he stayed in the game.

"I wanted to make sure it was feeling well," Green said before last night's game at the American Airlines Center. "I was already leaning toward playing but wanted to make sure if I went out hard to see if it felt good, and it did."

Sixers Hand Bobcats 31-Point Loss

Nov 7, 2007 10:27 PM

Andre Iguodala scored 19 points, Willie Green had 14 and the Philadelphia 76ers jumped on Charlotte early and never let up in a 94-63 win Wednesday night, sending the Bobcats back to .500 after a brief undefeated streak.

"It all fell apart," Bobcats' coach Sam Vincent said.

The Bobcats played without point guard Raymond Felton after he hurt his left knee a night earlier against Phoenix. Without the speedy Felton leading Charlotte's up-tempo offense, the Bobcats flopped from the start.

Cheeks Lays It On The Line At Practice

Nov 6, 2007 5:28 AM

Sixers' coach Mo Cheeks has been going through some pressurized free throw shooting drills after his team missed 29 free throws through the first three games.

"When you go out there and just shoot foul shots with your teammates [after practice], it's really no pressure on you," Cheeks said. "But if you put a guy out there for whatever the consequences are, it's a little bit more pressure."

The consequences?

"I can't tell you the consequences," Cheeks said, laughing.
