Sixers' Hill Undergoes Surgery

Oct 30, 2007 7:14 PM

Philadelphia 76ers' President Billy King announced Tuesday that rookie forward Herbert Hill has undergone successful surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee.  According to doctors, the timeline for Hill's return is approximately 4-6 weeks.

Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure in Birmingham, Alabama.  Team Physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy assisted in the surgery, which took place Tuesday.

A product of Providence College, Hill was originally drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 55th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft before being dealt to the Sixers in a draft night trade for Kyrylo Fesenko and future draft considerations.

Dalembert Ready To Return To Lineup

Oct 29, 2007 4:41 AM

Samuel Dalembert, coming back from a stress fracture in his left foot, made it through two weekend practices, seemingly significantly increasing the chances of him being available for Wednesday's season opener in Toronto.

He went though drills but no contact Saturday. He felt his level of optimism climbing, with the caveat of waiting to see how he would feel today.

"After that, everything is just . . . pray," said Dalembert, who revealed that he has grown to 267 pounds after weighing between 245 and 250 last season, when he was the only Sixer to start all 82 games.

"Hopefully, it doesn't get worse or be unbearable. Chances are good [to be ready against the Raptors]. I have to admit, I was surprised myself [yesterday]."

Iguodala Talks Take On Urgency

Oct 29, 2007 4:39 AM

With a deadline of 11:59 P.M. Wednesday looming, the talks between the 76ers and Andre Iguodala regarding a contract extension have taken on a sense of urgency. Iguodala's agent, Rob Pelinka, flew from his office in California to meet for three hours yesterday with Billy King, the Sixers' President and General Manager.

According to NBA rules, if an extension is not agreed to by Wednesday night, the two sides cannot meet again until July. At that point, Iguodala could be a restricted free agent, but the Sixers would retain the right to match any offer.

Still, it's clear that both sides hope to avoid that scenario.

Autopsy: Griffin's Blood-Alcohol Was 3 Times Limit

Oct 27, 2007 12:52 AM

Former NBA player Eddie Griffin had more than three times the legal alcohol limit in his system when he crashed his sport utility vehicle into a moving train and died this summer, according to an autopsy report released Friday.

The Harris County Medical Examiner's office said the 25-year-old Griffin died of "multiple blunt force injuries.'' The medical examiner's office performed tests on Griffin's bile and blood from his heart and liver and determined his blood-alcohol level was 0.26. The legal limit in Texas is 0.08.

Tests found no traces of cocaine, amphetamines or any other narcotics.

Extension Talks For Iguodala Still Ongoing

Oct 23, 2007 5:48 AM

Billy King said that negotiations with agent Rob Pelinka on a contract extension for Andre Iguodala remain ongoing and will continue to the Oct. 31 deadline.

If they cannot reach agreement, league rules dictate that they will have to wait until July 1 to resume talks. At that point, the Sixers will have a right of first refusal on any offer to Iguodala from another team.

"There have been a lot of situations where guys have gone into a contract year and had their best seasons," King said.

Dalembert Shelved This Week

Oct 23, 2007 5:45 AM

The Sixers' medical staff has again placed Samuel Dalembert's left foot in a protective boot, hoping that immobilizing the foot will aid in the starting center's return from a stress fracture that was diagnosed in August.

Cheeks said yesterday that Dalembert will not play in the two remaining preseason games: tomorrow night in New York and Thursday night in New Jersey. Also, he will not practice until Saturday at the earliest. The Sixers open the season Oct. 31 in Toronto.

Without Dalembert, Cheeks will continue to offer extended power forward/center minutes to rookie Jason Smith and also will use veteran Calvin Booth and possibly rookie Herbert Hill. He has remained more cautious about using Shavlik Randolph, who is not quite 11 months removed from a fractured and dislocated left ankle.

Sixers Say Kevin Ollie Will Be Ready For Opener

Oct 15, 2007 8:22 PM

Veteran guard Kevin Ollie has been almost invisible since the team began its exhibition schedule last week.

One of the rare sightings on the court came Friday, when team president and general manager Billy King presented the 6-foot-3 Ollie with a wristwatch to celebrate his decade-long NBA career. The Sixers (0-3) lost to New Jersey that night.

"It's been some trials and tribulations, but I got through it," said the 34-year-old Ollie, who has played for 10 NBA teams.

Ollie has been limited by a strained groin, but Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said he is not worried about the guard being ready for the regular season.

"You know what you're going to get from Kevin Ollie," Cheeks said after Ollie scored eight points against the Wizards. "He's a veteran who's been around for a long time."
