The Philadelphia 76ers will waive Trevor Booker to create a roster spot for Ersan Ilyasova.
Booker was acquired by the 76ers as part of the Jahlil Okafor and Nik Stauskas trade.
Booker was a poor fit with the 76ers due to his inability to space the floor.
Booker is expected to receive interest from playoff teams.
LeBron James considered the three billboards placed in Cleveland by a business based in Pennsylvania recruiting him to the 76ers to be a compliment.
"You can say it's a distraction, it's not. Not a distraction," James said Tuesday morning. "It is actually very flattering that I'm sitting here at 33 and in my 15th year and teams or guys -- I don't want to say teams because that becomes tampering -- but people in their respective city want me to play for them. That's cool I think. That's dope."
James has a player option for next season, giving him the choice of remaining in Cleveland or entering free agency.
"A lot of potholes on 480," James said with a smile when asked if he's driven on I-480 recently. "Got to be careful with the cars. Got to be very careful. That's why I don't do much driving. I sit in the backseat. You talking about the billboards though?
"I didn't talk to y'all yesterday but I seen it before that just in case I saw y'all."
Trevor Booker is a serial entrepreneur who owns more than 12 companies and has a shared interest in a half-dozen more with his college roomate Jonah Baize.
The duo began their business interests with a basketball academy in Charlotte in 2011.
“We actually started it with little to no money,” Booker said. “I think the only thing we really invested in was the website, which was huge for recruiting, and that was about $2,000. But after that, the money came from the kids and families up front, so we would house and feed them off that.”
Their academy is now a group of private high schools called Combine Academy that has campuses in six states.
“When it all started out, we thought, ‘How can we make this scalable?’ Then it just took off,” Booker said.
Booker and Baize are owning partners of Combine Enterprises, the parent company of their academic investments, and JB Fitzgerald Venture Capital. The firm has a motto of “We fund and support small companies with big ideas.”
Booker's goal is to build a portfolio that eventually makes him a billionaire.
“Maybe 30-35 years. I know I can get there,” Booker said of how long that might take.
A company based in Pennsylvania has bought three billboards along I-480 in Cleveland recruiting LeBron James to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The first sign features "#23" in maroon with a crown on it on the court with four blue numbers, numbers that just happen to match the Philadelphia 76ers jerseys of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Dario Saric and Robert Covington.
The second billboard several hundred feet farther says "Complete The Process." And the third says "#PhillyWantsLeBron."
The 76ers will be in town to play the Cavaliers on Thursday night in a nationally televised game, but the team has nothing to do with the billboards.
Power House Remodeling, based in Chester, Pennsylvania, purchased the billboards.
"We're passionate about Philadelphia," said Asher Raphael, the company's co-CEO. "We have an amazing city, it's the best sports town and it's an awesome place to live. We think the best athletes should want to play here."
"The billboard company said they considered what we were doing to be a political ad and wouldn't sell it to us if we didn't follow those rules," Raphael said. "So they made us say, 'Paid for By.'"
James can become a free agent this offseason.
Ersan Ilyasova plans on signing with the Philadelphia 76ers once he completes his buyout with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks were unable to trade Ilyasova at the deadline.
Ilyasova appeared in 53 games with the 76ers during the 16-17 season before he was traded to the Hawks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo revealed that Joel Embiid attempted to recruit him to the Philadelphia 76ers during All-Star weekend.
Antetokounmpo and Embiid were teammates on Team Stephen.
"He told me I should trust the process and come play for Philly," Antetokounmpo said with a chuckle, drawing a laugh. "That was my reaction — I just laughed.”
The 76ers selected Michael Carter-Williams ahead of Antetokounmpo in 2013.
Antetokounmpo cannot become a free agent until 2021.
Ben Simmons alluded to the Philadelphia 76ers pursuing LeBron James this offseason in an Instagram post from All-Star weekend.
The 76ers could create max cap space to potentially sign James.
Simmons is represented by Klutch Sports, which was founded by Rich Paul and James.
Joel Embiid and James Harden have been named the NBA's Players of the Week.
Embiid led the 76ers to a 3-0 week with wins over Washington, New Orleans and the L.A. Clippers, all teams over .500. He posted averages of 26.7 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.3 blocks in 30.1 minutes per game while shooting .484 from the field.
Harden averaged 33.0 points, 6.8 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.25 steals while also hitting 18 3-pointers on 39.1% shooting last week while the Rockets went 4-0.
Markelle Fultz could miss the remainder of his rookie season with ongoing shoulder issues.
"There's always a chance that he's going to be out there soon, and there's a chance that he's not going to play this year. I can't answer that question because we don't know the answer to that," said Bryan Colangelo.
Colangelo said Fultz's shooting range is "in the paint right now."
Fultz has played in only four games this season and has been out since October 23rd. The 76ers are still not sure if changing his shot caused the injury, or if the injury caused the change in his shot.
“It’s been tough, but at the end of the day, I know it’s gonna make me better,” Fultz said this week. “It’s been a long journey just trying to re-learn it, I’m just going through it and I wanna go back out there as quick as I can but it’s been a slow process.”
Fultz was the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
