Mahinmi's Free Agency Decision Based On Playing Time

May 27, 2010 9:41 AM

Ian Mahinmi will be a free agent this summer, as the Spurs did not pick up their option on his contract for the 10-11 season.

In an interview with the French radio station RTL-L'Equipe, Mahinmi had this to say about his future with the Spurs and the NBA.

?My decision will be only based on the playing time,? he said. ?If a team offers me a consequent playing time, I will thus sign with it. If the Spurs offered me a good project, I will stay in San Antonio. I would love to stay in San Antonio.?

Parker Refutes Reports Of Interest In Knicks

May 13, 2010 8:01 AM

Spurs point guard Tony Parker has denied reports that he's interested in playing for the Knicks.

The New York Daily News, citing "close friends," suggested that Parker might welcome a trade to the Knicks.

For the second time in three days, Parker said on Wednesday that he wants to remain with the Spurs.

"Again, I want to make it clear: I want to stay in San Antonio," said Parker. "My heart is in San Antonio. But it doesn't seem to matter what I say. The rumors get worse and worse, and as I go through my free-agent year, I know there will be even more."

Parker will make $13.5 million next season in the final year of his deal.

Spurs Won't Shop Parker

May 10, 2010 8:20 PM

While the Spurs are beholden to "continue to evaluate any opportunity that comes," GM RC Buford said Monday he does not expect to shop Tony Parker during the offseason.

"I think that you would be crazy not to want a player like Tony in our program for a long time," Buford said, adding, "The speculation with Tony is placed outside our organization."

Parker has a $13.5 million expiring contract set to come off the books next season.

"It would surprise me, if Tony hadn't played most of the year with some kind of health ailment, that we'd even be having this conversation," Buford said.

Spurs May Consider Trading Parker

May 10, 2010 10:59 AM

The Spurs are expected to consider trading Tony Parker to either give its three-man core a fresh look or find a younger big man to pair with Tim Duncan, after signing Manu Ginobili to a three-year contract worth nearly $40 million last month and with Duncan and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich under contract through 2011-12.

Duncan wouldn't be drawn on specific areas that need improvement, saying only: "We'll start doing whatever we've got to do to prepare for next year."

Parker 'Happy' For Nash, Stoudemire

May 10, 2010 7:47 AM

Spurs guard Tony Parker was upset after the team was swept at the hands of the Suns on Sunday night, but he expressed respect for the opposition.

Phoenix had been eliminated from the playoffs by San Antonio in four series since 2003.

"Obviously I'm very sad and very mad that we lost, but at the same time I'm happy for Nash and [Amare] Stoudemire," Parker said.

"Because every year they played hard against us and it never went their way. This year, it went their way."

Parker's comments carry extra weight because there has been speculation that the Spurs might shop him this summer.

Tony Parker Might Be San Antonio's Best Trade Asset, Unsure Of Future With Franchise

May 9, 2020 12:19 PM

Facing an 0-3 hole against the Suns in their semifinal series, the Spurs could be looking at major moves this offseason.

Marc Stein of ESPN.com writes that, according to sources, San Antonio is "increasingly optimistic about their ability to inject their front line with some new blood by convincing Brazilian forward Tiago Splitter ... to leave the European game to come to the NBA starting next season."

The Spurs drafted Splitter back in 2007.

Stein also wrote that Tony Parker, as strange as it sounds, is the team's best trade asset.

The point guard has one season at $13.5 million left on his contract and has reportedly been telling people that he is unsure about his future in San Antonio.
