Siakam made the All-Star Game for the first time in 2020, but has struggled since the NBA's restart in August.

Celtics, Raptors Have Placed 'Courtesy Calls' To Rockets For James Harden

Dec 31, 2020 8:04 AM

The Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors have joined the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat in making a "courtesy call" to the Houston Rockets on a James Harden trade, sources tell Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

The Milwaukee Bucks even had an internal conversation and ran it past Giannis Antetokounmpo before deciding not to pursue Harden at all.

There are approximately seven teams in the East that can realistically talk themselves into having an opportunity to reach the Conference Finals, which puts the possibility of a Harden trade for one of them a balance of power shifting move.

Masai Ujiri, Raptors Haven't Discussed Contract Extension Since February

Dec 7, 2020 3:06 PM

Masai Ujiri and the Toronto Raptors haven't discussed a contract extension since February, sources told Michael Grange of Sportsnet.

Ujiri is currently in the final year of his contract with the Raptors.

“I can promise you, it’s not [MLSE]. They’d have to be nuts not to [want to sign him]. It’s not like there’s a Plan A and a Plan B. There’s only Plan A, and it’s him," a source told Sportsnet.

Ujiri said on Saturday that he's extended the contracts of his leadership team, except for Bobby Webster. Ujiri added that Webster is close to an extension agreement.

The lack of urgency the Raptors showed in offering Ujiri an extension after the Raptors' title has reportedly justified Ujiri keeping his options opened.

Some within the league have also theorized that Ujiri is waiting for an opportunity to get a stake in ownership with his next move.

Ujiri is expected to earn at least $12 million per year on his next deal.

“Masai has gotten to the point where he’s maxed the market as it relates to someone in his position,” said one well-positioned league insider. “As far as a front-office person is concerned, he’s going to make the most money that a front-office person has ever made, and he’s probably going to be able to hold that, where no one is going to be able to usurp that number.”
