Dampier looking to deal

Feb 29, 2004 9:45 AM

Warriors Center Erick Dampier could be a hot commodity in this summer's free agent market. Not only is he having the best season of his career, but he will also have the opportunity to opt out of the final two years, $17 million of his contract.

Dampier, second in the NBA in offensive rebounds per game (4.5), fifth in field goal percentage (.516) and sixth in double-doubles (31), is not showing his hand about what he wants to do after this season. But it's clear he's going to look around.

"I'm going to make that decision sometime this summer," said Dampier. "Right now, my goal is to finish the season strong and see what happens."

Memphis sets playoff tickets prices

Feb 25, 2004 9:03 PM

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) The Memphis Grizzlies are getting ready for what could be the franchise's first trip to the playoffs, announcing postseason ticket prices Wednesday.

With a little less than two months left in the regular season, the Grizzlies are in sixth place in the Western Conference. The top eight teams in each NBA conference make the playoffs.

Memphis was 34-22 heading into Wednesday night's game against Golden State.

Season-ticket holders will be given priority for playoff purchases, and the Grizzlies will be sending them information over the next few days on how to reserve seats.

They will be able to buy playoff tickets at prices ranging from $9 to $130 for first-round games, compared with $12 to $155 for the general public. Season-ticket holders would receive similar discounts in later rounds if the Grizzlies advance.

The team also would continue its regular-season tradition of selling 500 tickets on game day for $5 each.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Miller will miss the next five games after being placed on the injured list with back spasms.

Miller, who has averaged nearly 12 points and four assists this season, consulted with team physicians Wednesday. He left in third quarter of the Grizzlies' 109-92 win over Dallas on Tuesday.

In his place, the Grizzlies activated rookie Troy Bell. One of their two first-round picks, Bell has appeared in two games this season and has been active for 18 of 53 games after being placed on the injured list twice with tendinitis in his left knee.

Miller reinjures back

Feb 7, 2004 7:56 AM

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Miller reinjured his back Friday night in a second-quarter collision with Desmond Mason of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Miller, in his fourth season, has battled back problems since soon after he was traded to Memphis from Orlando last season. He missed two games in late January because of the back spasms, and had seen limited action since returning three games ago.

Miller, who averages 11.7 points and four assists, collided with Mason near midcourt with 6:58 remaining in the second quarter and Memphis leading 41-33.

Miller lay on the court after the collision, and Mason was holding his left wrist after aggravating an injury from earlier in the season.

Memphis forward Pau Gasol approached Mason as he headed to the bench.

``I just said I didn't like what he did on the court,'' Gasol said of the confrontation. ``I saw the action, and I just couldn't let him go to the bench like that. I just stepped right in front of him and told him that was wrong.''

The ensuing scuffle led to technicals on Gasol and Grizzlies' center Lorenzen Wright and Mason and Bucks guard Damon Jones. Mason also was called for a flagrant foul on the play.

Mason soon returned, but Miller did not play the rest of the game, finishing with eight points in nine minutes.

Miller is listed as day-to-day.
