Wizards Showing Interest In Quentin Grimes

Jan 27, 2024 10:58 AM

The Washington Wizards have shown interest in trading for Quentin Grimes of the New York Knicks. Grimes has drawn interest from several teams ahead of the trade deadline.

The Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz were previously reported as talking about trading for Grimes.

The third-year guard has averaged 7.0 points per game. Grimes has seen a lessened role this year, as he's started only 18 games and is averaging 19.8 minutes per game. Those are down from starting 66 of 71 games and playing 29.9 minutes per game last season.

The Wizards are believed to be looking to add young talent and draft picks. ESPN recently reported that Washington's front office has a mandate from ownership to add more draft capital via trades.

Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon, Bruce Brown Jr. Would Each Likely Cost First Round Pick To Acquire

Jan 26, 2024 1:25 PM

If Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon or Bruce Brown Jr. are traded at the deadline, their incumbent teams are seeking "at least a first round pick" back in exchange, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

The price paid by the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier, the expiring contract of Kyle lowry plus a protected 2027 first round pick, has helped set the market for the three other available ballhandlers.

Jones and Brogdon were traded in the offseason, while Brown was dealt from the Indiana Pacers to the Toronto Raptors as part of the Pascal Siakam deal.

The Washington Wizards acquired Jones from the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a three-team trade involving Kristaps Porzingis.

Brogdon was acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers from the Boston Celtics as part of the Jrue Holiday deal.

Wizards Have Mandate To Acquire More First-Round Picks

Jan 26, 2024 9:18 AM

The Washington Wizards kicked off a rebuild last offseason. Now, Wizards executives want to keep that rebuild moving as they approach the trade deadline.

On a recent episode of ESPN's Hoop Collective, Brian Windhorst reported that Washington's front office has a mandate from ownership to acquire first-round picks at the trade deadline.

"They have to do this. That's a mandate," Windhorst said about the Wizards plans to acquire picks for their veteran players.

Washington has been rumored to have Tyus Jones, Kyle Kuzma, Daniel Gafford and Jordan Poole available via trade. Jones is on an expiring deal, while Kuzma, Gafford and Poole all have multiple years remaining on their contracts.

Wizards 'Very Reticent' To Consider Trading Kyle Kuzma

Jan 24, 2024 8:30 AM

Kyle Kuzma has been mentioned as a trade candidate leading to the deadline a few months after re-signing with the Washington Wizards on a four-year, $102 million deal. The Wizards, however, do not currently appear motivated to trade Kuzma.

"Washington has been very reticent with Kyle Kuzma," said Adrian Wojnarowski on his podcast. "People are calling them. Teams tell me they call them and they're not getting counters from Washington. If you want to register an offer for Kuzma, fine, you can do it. But they're not at the point now where it seems like they're really active in maybe seriously trying to move him. It could change by the deadline, but I know Michael Winger and Will Dawkins like Kuzma, like having him there. I think they'll be particular about what they might do."

Mavericks Have Called Wizards About Kyle Kuzma

Jan 21, 2024 6:44 PM

The Dallas Mavericks have reached out to the Washington Wizards on forward Kyle Kuzma. Dallas has been looking to upgrade their rotation around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Washington reportedly wants at least two first-round picks in return for Kuzma.

Mark Cuban told a Dallas-area radio show this week that the Mavs are looking for frontcourt help.

"If we can get a big who can also create off the dribble, that’d be a plus," Cuban said on The Ben and Skin show, adding that the player would preferably stand at least 6-foot-8.

Kuzma is in the first year of the four-year, $90 million deal he signed with the Wizards this past offseason. Kuzma is making $25.6 million this season, and his deal descends to $23.5 million, $21.5 million and $19.4 million over the next three seasons.

Wizards Sign Trey Jemison To 10-Day Contract

Jan 20, 2024 9:23 AM

The Washington Wizards are signing center/forward Trey Jemison to a 10-day contract. Jemison has played for the Birmingham Squadron of the G League this season.

In 25 games with the Squadron, Jemison has averaged 10.9 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. The 6-foor-10 big man has also shot 57% from the field this season.

Wizards starting center Daniel Gafford suffered a concussion against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, January 15. That caused newly acquired Marvin Bagley III to have to start and play over 39 minutes in his first game with Washington on Thursday.
