Isaiah Livers Out For Remainder Of The Season

Feb 27, 2024 9:31 AM

The Washington Wizards announced that forward Isaiah Livers will miss the remainder of this season due a right hip injury. Livers has an inflamed joint capsule in his right hip and the team says the injury will be treated conservatively.

Livers did not appear in a game with the Wizards after being acquired from the Detroit Pistons in a mid-January trade. Washington can make Livers a restricted free agent this summer by tendering him a qualifying offer.

Jordan Poole Unhappy About Move To Bench

Feb 23, 2024 8:23 AM

Washington Wizards interim head coach Brian Keefe made his first big lineup change since taking over by moving Jordan Poole to a bench role.

Poole had started the first 52 games he played this season.

When asked about the lineup change, Poole let it be known he's not happy with it.

"If there’s any common sense, with the situation, you should know how I feel. But I’m just going to come out, do what I can do to help the team, keep it moving," Poole said.

"I mean, if this is a way to try to get me on ball, I guess that’s just what we have to do."

Jules Bernard Named G League Player Of The Week

Feb 13, 2024 3:29 PM

Washington Wizards two-way player Jules Bernard was named G League Player of the Week for the week of February 5 – February 11.

Bernard averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting .667 from the field and .909 from the free throw line during the week. His performances helped the Go-Go secure back-to-back wins at home on February 6 and February 8 against the Western Conference second seed Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Bernard is the second Go-Go player to earn the award this season after Jared Butler was named Player of the Week for the first week of the regular season.

Bernard’s 26.5 points per game ranked eighth in the G League for the week and his .667 field goal percentage was the fourth-most in the league among those who averaged at least 20 points per game. He had the highest plus-minus stat in the league, averaging 27.5 for the week. Additionally, his 8.5 rebounds per game were also the fourth-most among guards last week.

Kyle Kuzma Turned Down Chance To Be Traded By Wizards To Mavericks

Feb 13, 2024 9:39 AM

Ahead of last Thursday's NBA trade deadline, there was a point with the Washington Wizards were close to trading Kyle Kuzma to the Dallas Mavericks. Even though Kuzma doesn't have the ability to block a trade, Washington's front office leader Michael Winger presented him with the trade idea anyway.

“There was a point in time, Dallas, they definitely did want me,” Kuzma told The Athletic on Monday, before the Wizards played the Mavericks at American Airlines Center. “(Michael) Winger presented me with what the trade was and obviously didn’t want to trade me and kind of left the decision up to me a little bit and asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I wanted to stay and continue to build something. And that was kind of the end of it.”

Winger later said that Kuzma is an important part of what the Wizards are building.

“Kyle’s an important player for us and (a) significant contributor to our developing culture,” Winger told The Athletic on Monday.

Virginia Senator Says Bill To Relocate Wizards Currently Dead

Feb 12, 2024 1:51 PM

Sen. L. Louise Lucas of Virginia said proposed levitation to help relocate the Washington Wizards to northern Virginia is dead as far as she's concerned.

Lucas, chair of the Senate Finance & Appropriations Committee, first said over the weekend on social media that legislation underpinning the deal was "not ready for prime time" and would not receive a hearing in her committee. The decision in effect killed the Senate version of the legislation because of a procedural deadline this week, though another bill is making progress in the House of Delegates, which is also controlled by Democrats.

Lucas on Monday said Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin had made a series of mistakes in trying to advance the deal through a General Assembly now in full Democratic control after November's elections.

Youngkin and Ted Leonsis announced in December that they had reached an understanding on a deal to relocate the Wizards.

Wizards Were 'Close' To Trading Kyle Kuzma To Mavericks

Feb 9, 2024 2:32 PM

The Washington Wizards were widely touted as not seriously considering a trade of Kyle Kuzma at the deadline, but sources tell The Athletic that the came "close" to agreeing to one offer.

The offer almost certainly came from the Dallas Mavericks, who instead acquired Daniel Gafford from the Wizards as well as PJ Washington from the Charlotte Hornets.

The Wizards were seeking at least two first round picks in order to trade Kuzma.

Washington values Kuzma's play and off-court intangibles more than what the market dictated.

Kuzma's contract descends each year, dropping from $23.5 million for 2024-25 to $21.5 million in 2025-26 to $19.4 million in 2026-27.

The Mavericks were seeking an upgrade at backup center behind Dereck Lively.

Kyle Kuzma Likely To Stay With Wizards

Feb 8, 2024 8:09 AM

The Washington Wizards are increasingly likely to keep forward Kyle Kuzma through the trade deadline. Part of what's driving that decision is Kuzma's desire to stay in Washington.

The Wizards set a high asking price for Kuzma in trade talks. They value his scoring and versatility. Washington also re-signed the 28-year-old forward to a four-year, $90 million deal this past offseason.

Kuzma's contract is part of the reason rival teams covet him in trade discussions. Kuzma's deal is for $25.6 million this season, but declines in value each year, ending at $19.4 million in 2026-27.
