Families May Not Join NBA Players At Disney Complex Until September

May 31, 2020 2:02 PM

NBA players expect that their families may not be able to join them at the Disney World complex until September should the season resume, according to Tim Reynolds of the AP.

Reynolds adds that a lot of details remain uncertain at this moment, though that is the expectation among certain players.

The NBA is reportedly targeting a July 31st date to resume the season, with games likely to be played in a bubble environment at Disney World.

Windhorst: Jayson Tatum Will 'Most Likely' Receive Max Contract Offer After This Season

May 30, 2020 4:13 PM

Jayson Tatum will likely receive a max contract offer from the Boston Celtics, according to Brian Windhorst.

Tatum will be eligible for a contract extension after this season.

"If Jayson Tatum is the superstar that they envisioned when they began this whole rebuilding process when they traded Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce for all of those draft picks hoping to land a player like this, we could see 'Glory Days' for the Celtics again.

"But it's very much up in the air, and I'm gonna tell ya, they're gonna have to pay him like it because after this season ends, he is going to get most likely a max contract. They're going to bet that he becomes that player," said Windhorst on Sportscenter.

Tatum is set to earn $9.9 million next season.

Steve Mills 'Reached Out' To Patrick Ewing During Knicks' Coaching Search In 2018

May 30, 2020 1:30 PM

Then-New York Knicks president Steve Mills "reached out" to Patrick Ewing during their coaching search in 2018, league sources told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Ewing, who had just finished up his first season as Georgetown coach, was not prepared to leave his position.

Ewing previously stated in 2015 that he would never want a college head-coaching role due to the emphasis on recruiting.

A Georgetown run to the Sweet 16 would improve Ewing's chances of becoming an NBA head coach, according to sources.

Majority Of NBA GMs Prefer Resuming Season By Going Straight To Playoffs

May 30, 2020 1:20 AM

16 out of the 30 NBA GMs voted for the season to resume by going straight to the playoffs.

The seeding would be based on the standings from when games were suspended in March.

When asked how many teams should participate in a potential "playoff-plus" scenario, 15 GMs voted for 20 teams to participate.

The Board of Governors is expected to approve a scenario involving 20-22 teams next Thursday.

Bradley Beal Views Trade Rumors 'As A Sign Of Respect'

May 29, 2020 12:44 PM

Bradley Beal has emerged in trade rumors even though the Washington Wizards have maintained the position publicly and privately that he's not available. Beal has also reiterated he wants to remain with the Wizards.

The New York Daily News reported last week that the Brooklyn Nets have had "internal discussions" on trading for Beal.

"It's not the first time I've heard this kind of talk," Beal told ESPN. "It's interesting. To me, I look at it as a sign of respect, that I've been doing good things and guys want to play with me.

"That's an unbelievable feeling. When you hear that Kyrie [Irving] and KD [Kevin Durant] want you, s---, that's amazing. At the same time, you don't know how much there is to it, or how easy it would be to do. And I've put down roots in D.C. I've dedicated myself to this town, this community. I love it here, and it would feel great to know I could grind out winning here instead of jumping to another team.

"But I'd be naive to say that I don't think about it when these stories come up."

Beal wants to reunite with John Wall and see how the Wizards can compete.

"My biggest thing right now is that I want to play with John [Wall] again,'' Beal said. "I want to see him get back to that level where I know he can be, especially since my game has grown so much [while he's been out]. What can we accomplish together? I'm so happy he's healthy, working his tail off."

Marc Lasry: NBA Board Could Vote On Resuming Season 'Early Next Week'

May 29, 2020 1:37 AM

Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry said that the NBA board of governors could vote on resuming the season "early next week" during an appearance on CNBC's Halftime.

Lasry said that Adam Silver will present "different options" for resuming play on Friday, with the board taking the weekend to consider his proposal.

The Bucks owner added that he believes the season will resume at Disney World, with the biggest question centered around the number of teams that will be allowed to play.

“I think at the end of the day, we’ll be in Orlando at Disney. The question is going to be will we have all 30 teams there or will we have 24; whatever the number will end up being. But hopefully, by the middle of July, we start playing again.”

Tom Thibodeau, Kenny Atkinson, Mike Miller To Interview For Knicks' Job

May 27, 2020 1:32 PM

The New York Knicks are expected to interview Tom Thibodeau, Kenny Atkinson and Mike Miller for their head coaching vacancy

Thibodeau is widely considered to be the top candidate for the job.

Atkinson was fired as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets in March.

The Knicks have been impressed by the job Miller has done as interim head coach and is expected to be offered a position to stay with the franchise even if he's not offered the head coaching job.

New York fired David Fizdale as head coach early in the 19-20 season.

Knicks To Formally Begin Search For New Head Coach

May 27, 2020 1:29 PM

The New York Knicks will soon begin their search for a new head coach with a decision targeted in the next few weeks.

Tom Thibodeau is atop the list of targets for the Knicks.

The Knicks, however, are expected to interview Mike Miller for the job. Miller has left a strong impression throughout the franchise as interim head coach.

If the Knicks resume play as part of the NBA's resumption of the 19-20 season, Miller would coach out the remainder of the season. Miller could also be offered an opportunity to return to the Knicks in some coaching capacity next season.

Kenny Atkinson likely will also receive an interview.
