The Atlanta Hawks announced that John Collins will be out for the next three games due to a strained right foot. Collins left Friday's game early due to heel pain. An MRI revealed the strain.

Collins will rest and receive treatment through next week's All-Star break. His status will be updated following that initial period of treatment.

Collins has averaged 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game this season.

The Sacramento Kings approached the Atlanta Hawks about a potential trade for John Collins, but did not discuss the inclusion of either Tyrese Haliburton or De'Andre Fox, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Haliburton and Fox were Sacramento's best two trade chips heading into the deadline period, but the presence of Trae Young would complicate that return for the Hawks.

The Kings instead shifted to a Haliburton for Domantas Sabonis deal while the Hawks decided to retain Collins.

The Hawks made their deadline move in January by receiving a first round pick for Cam Reddish.

The Atlanta Hawks have been the team most engaged with the Philadelphia 76ers in recent weeks on a Ben Simmons trade, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The two sides have discussed a framework of John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic and draft compensation in exchange for Simmons.

Collins is in the first year of a five-year, $125 million deal with the Hawks. Bogdanovic is in Year 2 of a four-year, $72 million deal.

Simmons hasn't played all season after requesting a trade in the offseason.

The Atlanta Hawks continue to monitor the trade market, but reports of an imminent trade appear to have quieted following a string of strong play.

"They remain active in trade talks, but don't appear to feel the same urgency to do something as they did two weeks ago, sources say," wrote Zach Lowe.

Based on multiple reports last month, the Hawks appeared to be strongly considering a trade of John Collins. The Hawks also traded away Cam Reddish to the New York Knicks, who was seeking a fresh start elsewhere. 

Travis Schlenk also openly questioned whether he made a mistake in retaining the Atlanta core that reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
