Al Horford has suffered another torn pectoral muscle and is out indefinitely.
Horford suffered a torn pectoral muscle in his left side two seasons ago.
"We will work with Al and complete our due diligence to determine the next best steps," Hawks general manger Danny Ferry said in a statement. "Injuries are part of the challenge of an NBA season."
Lucas Nogueira has been diagnosed with severe tendinitis in his knees and has been prescribed two months of rest.
Nogueira will undergo rehabilitation and physical therapy in Los Angeles before returning to Spain to continue playing this season.
Nogueira will not seek the medical opinion of the Atlanta Hawks' team doctors.
The 7-foot center was taken with the 16th overall selection in June’s NBA draft.
The Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers are pursuing Omer Asik in trade scenarios with the Houston Rockets.
There is also one more interested team in the mix for Asik.
"A wildcard," one source said.
Asik is averaging 4.4 points and 6.8 rebounds this season and has held a trade request for most of the season.
The Rockets seek a power forward in the deal with Paul Millsap, Thaddeus Young, Brandon Bass, Jeff Green and Anderson Varejao as candidates.
The Atlanta Hawks have recalled guard Dennis Schröder from the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. In addition, Jared Cunningham has been assigned to the Jam.
Schröder was assigned to Bakersfield on Dec. 4.
Cunningham has played in three games with Atlanta this season.
The Houston Rockets continue to plan on trading Omer Asik by Dec. 19, so they can possibly package any acquired players in a deal before the NBA's Feb. 20 deadline.
Many insiders believe that the Rockets' top target remains Paul Millsap of the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks signed Millsap to a two-year, $19 million deal in the offseason, which is considered one of the NBA's best bargains.

Cunningham appeared in five games for the Jam, all starts, and averaged 15.0 points, 4.6 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 34.4 minutes. Cunningham has appeared in one game for the Hawks this season, logging four minutes at Denver (11/7).
Jenkins has seen action in 10 games for the Hawks, averaging 3.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 13.5 minutes. In two games with the Jam last season, Jenkins averaged 25.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.0 minutes (.529 FG%, .400 3FG%, 1.000 FT%).

Schröder, Atlanta’s first round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft (17th overall), is averaging 3.7 points, 2.5 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 13.9 minutes in 11 games this season.
Schröder ranks tied for fourth among all NBA rookies in assists and tied for 16th in scoring.
Lou Williams tore his right ACL last season and returned on Nov. 18. The Atlanta Hawks' guard is still regaining confidence in his right knee and ability to drive to the basket when he plants it.
"My first step. Having the confidence to go left," Williams said of the final hurdles in his return. "Because when you go left, you're planting on that right leg, the one that I tore. Those are the things that I had relied on in my game. And being able to split [double teams] quick. Always just getting past guys, and creating contact.
"Those were the small details that I was trying to work through early on, and I feel like that's coming back now."
Williams is averaging 8.4 points and 3.8 assists in five games this season.
