Nets Hoping To Keep Diop

Feb 27, 2008 5:12 AM

The Nets like what DeSagana Diop brings to the table, and with the big man scheduled to be a free agent at seasons end, New Jersey is hoping they can re-sign him, the New York Post is reporting.

"I think he's going to help us," team president Rod Thorn said of Diop. "He's got a defensive presence, he's athletic, blocks shots, gets rebounds. I think he's a good player. He is someone we will look to re-sign. We like what we see."

Portland Almost Had Kidd

Feb 26, 2008 1:43 PM

The Trailblazers very nearly acquired Jason Kidd, according to the Star-Ledger.

Rod Thorn would only identify the team as "a midlevel team out west," but several league officials confirmed it as Portland.

The Blazers were to send Jarrett Jack and Raef LaFrentz to the Nets along with other cap-fillers for Kidd, but Kidd sabotaged the deal by publicly requesting a deal on Jan. 28.

When Kidd said he no longer wanted to play in New Jersey, Portland's management concluded that he wouldn't want to play for their club either since they aren't yet a title contender.
