Jackson: Trade Has Been Great For Me

Jan 30, 2010 10:32 AM

Bobcats guard Stephen Jackson has no regrets about forcing a trade out of Golden State earlier this season.

Jackson was fined roughly $165,000 for "conduct detrimental to the team" and going public with his trade demand.

"Where I'm at now is great, it's definitely been good for me," Jackson said Friday before Charlotte faced the Warriors.

Jackson was booed heartily by fans in Golden State, but he responded with 17 points in the first half.

"I'm getting a lot of satisfaction out of knowing that I'm helping this organization come close to getting into the playoffs," Jackson said of the Bobcats.

Gamble On Jackson Paying Off For Bobcats

Jan 24, 2010 5:31 PM

Looking to make their first-ever playoff appearance, the Bobcats took a gamble when they traded for Stephen Jackson on Nov. 17.

Charlotte general manager Rod Higgins pulled the trigger on the deal, hoping that Jackson would be a veteran leader for the team's young roster.

"I just said, 'Stephen, let's just try to treat this like a situation kind of like the one you just got out of, where you helped that (Warriors) club that hadn't been to the postseason in quite a few years get there,' " Higgins said of what he told Jackson following the deal. " 'Come help this young ballclub, and we'll provide you with what you need.'

"With Larry [Brown] and Michael [Jordan] and myself, we could manage him if we allowed the communication to be wide open. There's a risk in any trade you do, but he's what our team needed: another playmaker, another guy you could count on to score night in and night out. I thought it was the perfect fit."

The Bobcats were 3-6 at the time of the deal and they sit at 21-21 through Saturday night's action.

"With all situations, only time will tell," Higgins said. "You give (Jackson) the benefit of the doubt, continue to work with him and with us as a group and continually try to improve the team and get to that point where we're considered a very good team."

Jackson Scores 10,000th Point As Bobcats Win

Jan 17, 2010 8:34 AM

Stephen Jackson scored 29 points to surpass 10,000 for his career as the Bobcats defeated the Suns 125-99 on Saturday evening.

"Stephen Jackson is a heck of a player," said Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry. "From the standpoint of isolations and 1-on-1 plays, he's probably as good as anybody in the league. He's got size, he can put the ball down. He's a terrific shooter with range."

Jackson reached his milestone on a layup with 7:15 left in the second quarter.

"I'm just excited about being on a team that wants to win and has a chance to go back to the playoffs," said Jackson. "That's what I play this game for. I just want to go out there and be a factor every night."

Suns big man Amare Stoudemire also reached the 10,000-point mark, scoring 19 in the loss.

Bobcats Had Blair Ranked In Top 15

Jan 15, 2010 3:48 PM

Larry Brown was asked whether the Bobcats would have chosen San Antonio Spurs rookie DeJuan Blair, had he lasted three more spots to the Bobcats' No. 40 overall pick:

"Absolutely. Michael (Jordan) loved him. We all did, but there was an issue about his knee. To take a gamble with an early first-round pick, we all weighed, (knowing power forward) was a need of ours. They thought the risk might be too great (in the lottery), but with the second round, yeah. We had him rated really high. He was rated in the top 15.''

Gallinari Hurts Shoulder But Expected To Play

Jan 7, 2010 11:51 AM

Danilo Gallinari has a sore right shoulder that kept him from practicing fully on Wednesday.

Mike D'Antoni expects Gallinari to play in the Knicks' game against Charlotte on Thursday.

"I think he's got a little bit of a shoulder pain," D'Antoni said. "He did everything up until contact [at practice]. Tomorrow, he'll play."

The injury is not related to the forearm strain Gallinari suffered earlier this season.
