Zydrunas Ilgauskas To Retire

Sep 30, 2011 11:57 AM

Zydrunas Ilgauskas has told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he will retire.

Ilgauskas spent the 10-11 NBA season with the Miami Heat after playing for the Cavaliers since 1997.

Ilgauskas was an All-Star in 2003 and 2005 after fighting back from foot injuries early in his career that limited him to 29 games over three seasons.

"Personal tip of cap to Zydrunas Ilgauskas for going 13 years with those feet," wrote former Cavaliers' beat writer Brian Windhorst. "You can't believe what he went through behind scenes to play."

Davis Eager To Mentor Irving

Sep 25, 2011 12:51 PM

Baron Davis and Kyrie Irving met in Cleveland during a predraft workout and have remained in touch during the NBA lockout.

"[I'm] really looking forward to playing with, and mentoring, Kyrie," said Davis in an e-mail. "He's so talented, creative, smart, has so much potential and could become a great cornerstone of the Cavaliers' franchise for many years to come. I've been talking to him a lot this summer about NBA life, and in Cleveland, he's going to learn so much from coach [Byron] Scott, who will be a great mentor as well."

While they play the same position, Davis and Irving potentially could start in the same backcourt.

"I have idolized Baron since I was a kid," Irving said. "He has been in the NBA for so long. He still has the same talent as when he first came in [to the league]. What better way to come into the league than with a veteran point guard to learn under?"

Denying Report, Dan Gilbert Calls Out 'Bloggissists'

Sep 16, 2011 10:16 AM

Dan Gilbert took to Twitter to deny he helped derail collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

"Some of these NBA 'bloggissists' flat-out make stuff up and then try to dupe readers into believing their fiction is real. Sad & pathetic," Gilbert wrote.

An ESPN.com story, citing anonymous sources, stated that Gilbert and Phoenix's Robert Sarver expressed discontent with many points of a proposal from the players union during a meeting Tuesday in New York.

According to the report, owners were seriously considering "coming off their demands for a salary freeze and would allow players' future earnings to be tied into the league's revenue growth, a critical point for players. The owners also were willing to allow the players to maintain their current salaries without rollbacks," sources said.
