Kevin Love Would Get $2.283M Raise By Opting Out, Re-Signing

Apr 30, 2015 1:12 PM

Kevin Love may delay his ultimate free agency decision until 2016, but opting out of his contract this offseason would still make sense.

Love is scheduled to earn $16,744,218 next season, but his max salary projects to be $19,027,800. Even if Love re-signs on a one-year deal or two-year deal with a player option in the second year to become a 2016 free agent, Love could give himself a $2,283,582 raise by opting out.

Love could sign a five-year deal with the Cavaliers in 2015 worth approximately $109.4 million, or wait for 2016 and sign a five-year deal worth $145.1 million. If Love were to sign elsewhere, he could get four years and $81.2 million in 2015 or four years and $107.8 million in 2016.

Celtics Closed Gap On Lakers As Suitor For Kevin Love

Apr 26, 2015 11:46 PM

Throughout the season, the Boston Celtics closed the gap on the Los Angeles Lakers as a possible destination for Kevin Love if he left the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to sources.

The Celtics were waiting for July, and the chance to let coach Brad Stevens lay out Love's expanded role in his system. General manager Danny Ainge wanted a chance to sell Love on a vision for surrounding him with complementary talent, on maximizing his popularity as New England's next star.

Kevin Love Suffers Dislocated Left Shoulder

Apr 26, 2015 8:34 PM

Kevin Love suffered a dislocated left shoulder during the first quarter of Game 4.

Love and Kelly Olynyk became entangled when battling for a rebound.

Love immediately exited the game holding the shoulder.

While battling a back injury for most of the season, Love was beginning to look more healthy during the playoffs.

"We're going to go back to Cleveland, get the image and that will tell us what's going on. We simply don't know," said David Blatt.

"I thought it was a bush-league play," said Love. "I have no doubt in my mind that he did it on purpose"

Love also said his shoulder has already begun to feel better and is hopeful he can be ready for Game 1 of the next series.

Brian Windhorst reports that while nothing will be definite until an MRI is conducted, Love is expected to miss at least two weeks.
