Skiles On New Ref Rule: It?s About Time

Oct 13, 2006 4:14 AM

In the third quarter of the Bulls preseason opener against the Wizards, Kirk Hinrich was called for a foul, made a brush-off wave with his arm toward the referee and got a technical foul.

?I think it?s about time,? Bulls coach Scott Skiles said of the new policy. ?I?ve grown very weary of the constant complaining most of the teams do. I think they?ve let it go on too long.

?I think more than anything they?re just concerned about the constant lobbying. While somebody?s shooting a free throw, there?s three guys over talking the guy?s ear off. They?re going to try to stop that.?

Already, the no-whining edict has been dubbed the ?Rasheed Wallace Rule? by none other than the technical-collecting Pistons forward himself.

?It just means I must be doing something right,? Wallace said in the Detroit News. ?Any time they change the rules of the game for one specific player, you must be doing something right.?

Rasheed Wallace Cries Foul Over Rule

Oct 10, 2006 6:18 AM

The NBA, in an attempt to cut down on the incessant complaining by players to officials, has instituted what amounts to a zero-tolerance rule this season.

Where in the past the referees might look the other way when Rasheed Wallace threw his arms in the air or made some other wild gesture after a questionable call, or when Tayshaun Prince put his hands on his hips and shook his head in disgust after a call, this season, such actions could bring a quick technical.

"It's just another 'Sheed Wallace rule," Wallace said, shaking his head. "It just means I must be doing something right. Any time they change the rules of the game for one specific player, you must be doing something right."

Big Ben Lets Words Fly At Flip

Oct 7, 2006 12:30 PM

Ben Wallace made it clear to Chris Sheridan of ESPN that he neither respected, nor liked Flip Saunders as his head coach.

"I have no relationship with him," he told ESPN.

"He's a coach, and I'm a player, and that's as far as it went. If you say your door is always open, and we can always talk about things, and you'll be willing to listen, and when I come to him and talk about something that's bothering me that I think is hurting the team, if you don't do anything to change it, then that's the last time I need to talk to you."
