Draymond Green Enters NBA's Health And Safety Protocols

Dec 26, 2021 4:43 PM

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has entered the NBA's health and safety protocols. Green was placed in the protocols one day after helping the Warriors to a Christmas Day victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors All-Star will now miss at least 10 days, unless he's able to produce two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. The NBA and NBPA are currently negotiating to reduce the time in the protocols from 10 days to six for players who are asymptomatic and vaccinated.

Green has had a bounce-back season for Golden State. He's been a key part of their defense and offense, as the Warriors have put together a league-best 27-6 record.

Golden State Warriors wing Andrew Wiggins has entered the NBA's health and safety protocols. Wiggins last played on Friday night at the Boston Celtics. He, along with several other Warriors regulars, skipped Golden State's trip to Toronto on Saturday.

Following the game in Boston, Wiggins was asked if he was happy he got vaccinated, considering the prevalence of COVID outbreaks around the NBA this week.

"No. Not really," Wiggins said. "It was just something I had to do."

Unless he tests negative twice in a 24-hour period, Wiggins will miss at least 10 days.

Draymond Green: We Couldn't Have Continued Dominance Without Adding Kevin Durant In 2016

Dec 17, 2021 4:14 PM

While the Golden State Warriors won 73 games during the season before signing Kevin Durant, there is a belief from Draymond Green that signing him was more of a necessity than a luxury.

"I don't think that would have continued on without Kevin," Green told ESPN. "Everybody started defending us a certain way, and it got a lot tougher. Every team in the NBA has started building their team to compete against us, to be able to guard us, to literally match us. So I think as great as it was -- and I have no doubt in my mind we would have been right there again -- I do also think it was getting way tougher for us to figure out.

"And then we added Kevin and it wasn't."

While the Warriors fairly comfortably won a championship in 2017, they very nearly lost to the Houston Rockets in 2018, and then lost to the Toronto Raptors in 2019 with Durant out for nearly the entire Finals.

Klay Thompson Won't Return Until After Christmas

Dec 16, 2021 3:26 PM

Klay Thompson will not play in his first game since the 2019 Finals until after Christmas.

There had been hope that Thompson would return for a home game on either December 20th or 23rd, but the Golden State Warriors have all but ruled out the possibility.

The Warriors will play at the Phoenix Suns on Christmas Day.

The earliest possible return is now December 28th as Thompson continues to ramp up his conditioning.

Warriors Absolutely Not Trading James Wiseman

Dec 10, 2021 9:26 AM

James Wiseman hasn't played in an NBA game in over eight months, but his return is inching closer. When it comes, Wiseman will be suiting up for the Golden State Warriors, despite almost constant trade speculation.

Among many reasons the Warriors have no interest in trading Wiseman is that the organization believes he will be a star. Golden State believes that Wiseman possesses a unique combination of size and skill. Earlier this week, video was shared of the seven-footer doing ballhandling drills. Wiseman shrugged it off by saying “I’ve always been able to handle the ball. It’s just the fact that you all saw it.”

As a rookie, Wiseman averaged 11.5 points per game on 51.9% shooting from the field. The Warriors think with their full complement of players back, Wiseman will give them yet another scoring option.

There are also financial considerations, as Golden State is already top-heavy in salaries with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins on max contracts, along with Draymond Green making over $20 million per season. Wiseman's rookie scale deal is seen as cost-efficient for the Warriors in managing their historic luxury tax bill.

James Wiseman Won't Make Season Debut Until 2022

Dec 8, 2021 12:06 PM

James Wiseman will not be ready to play as he works his way back from a meniscus repair surgery until the beginning of 2022.

“So, he hasn’t scrimmaged yet," said Steve Kerr. "By the time he comes back and scrimmages, it’s going to take some time from there. You guys can do the math. I don’t want to be a headline.”

Meniscus tears typically take six to nine months to rehab.
