Draymond Green Following Career-High 19 Assists: Had To Make It 'Right' After Last Week

Feb 27, 2021 1:36 PM

Draymond Green had a triple-double, including a career-high 19 assists, in the Golden State Warriors' 130-121 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Green said he had to make it "right" after getting ejected in the final seconds against the Hornets last week.

"A revenge game would be a bit of a stretch. I would say it's just me coming out and making it right. Trying to do whatever I can to help this team get a win. Can't just forget about what happened last week, so I wouldn't call it a revenge game," said Green.

The Warriors are currently on a three-game win streak.

Green added that the team is beginning to gel.

"I think earlier on in the year there were things that I would see that other guys weren't seeing, but with the repetition, with the time together, guys are starting to see that. Kelly Oubre's been fantastic cutting off the ball, [Andrew Wiggins], obviously, I can always find Steph somewhere. [James Wiseman] coming and putting that pressure on the rim. So just me and my teammates are playing well."

Warriors Attempted To Sell Minority Stake To SPAC

Feb 25, 2021 3:11 PM

The owners of the Golden State Warriors approached the NBA for approval to sell a minority stake in the franchise to a publicly traded blank-check company that had partnered with a private equity firm.

The unidentified institutional buyers had the support of Silicon Valley tycoon Chamath Palihapitiya, a minority owner in the Warriors, and were confident they would be approved.

The NBA’s Advisory/Finance Committee put off a decision and the Warriors withdrew the request under the assumption it would not be approved.

There are now five SPACs looking to buy stakes in professional sports franchises. Frustration is mounting among some NBA owners that the NBA has been slow to work on a solution to sell to these entities.

“The pressure on Adam [Silver] is extreme,” a source close to the NBA office said.

Joe Lacob is now speaking only to private equity firms in his efforts to sell a stake of at least 5 percent of the pandemic-fueled money-losing team, including billionaire Howard Marks’ Oaktree Capital Management, sources said.

The NBA is concerned that SPAC ownership could lead to league financials getting revealed via public filings.

Wolves' 2021 FRP Owned By Warriors, Michael Porter Jr. Considered Two Most Valuable Trade Assets

Feb 25, 2021 10:17 AM

The 2021 first round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves owned by the Golden State Warriors and Michael Porter Jr. are widely considered the two most valuable trade assets on the market.

The Warriors acquired the top-3 protected pick from Minnesota as part of the D'Angelo Russell for Andrew Wiggins trade.

Denver has so far been reluctant to trade Porter in their conversations for Jrue Holiday and James Harden. It remains to be seen whether the Nuggets would reverse course should Bradley Beal come to market.

Steve Kerr: Draymond Green 'Crossed The Line' With Late Ejection

Feb 21, 2021 12:55 PM

Steve Kerr admitted that Draymond Green "crossed the line" with his ejection in the final seconds of the Golden State Warriors' 102-100 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

Green was given two technical fouls for arguing a jump ball call with seconds left to play and the Warriors up by two. The ejection gave the Hornets two free throws plus the ball, with Terry Rozier eventually making the game-winning shot.

"He crossed the line. That's the main thing. We love his passion and his energy. We would not be the team we are without him, but that doesn't give him license to cross that line, and he knows that," said Kerr.

Crew chief Marc Davis said that Green got his first technical for taunting an opponent, and the second one for directing a "screaming profanity" at an official.

Eric Paschall said that Green took responsibility for the technical fouls after the game.

"He said it was his fault. And he took ownership as he always does as a leader. We're still rocking with Dray no matter what. A great dude, competitor, so it's all good. S--- happens in the NBA. We're just going to learn from it and try to come back, try to win the next one. Great leader and competitor."

Steph Curry Misses Game After Not Feeling Well, No COVID-19 Protocols Needed

Feb 20, 2021 11:57 PM

Steph Curry missed the Golden State Warriors' 102-100 loss to the Charlotte Hornets after "not feeling well," said Steve Kerr.

Kerr added that Curry is not under any COVID-19 protocols, and could return on Tuesday.

"Going through his usual warmup routine, he just did not feel well at all. And so he came back in, saw the Charlotte team doctor, went out tried to warm up and just wasn't feeling good...

"We'll see how he's doing [Sunday] ... There were no [COVID-19] protocols in place. Just him feeling sick," said Kerr.

Kerr said that the Warriors missed Curry's presence in the loss.

"Our offense is based on Steph. Obviously our pace, everything else. So it took us some time to get our feet on the ground but once we did I thought we really competed well and did everything necessary to win the game. We fought, we competed together."

Stephen Curry On MVP Talk: The Game Speaks For Itself

Feb 12, 2021 2:23 PM

Stephen Curry is averaging 35.3 points per game and shooting 53-for-101 from beyond the arc over his past eight contests. After a 40-point performance on Thursday, Curry was asked if he'd like to be in the conversation for MVP this season.

"The game speaks for itself," said Curry. "Those two [MVP] years is the exact same kind of conversation. Obviously, that's an amazing accomplishment, and being in that conversation with all that we've been through these last two years, that means something. Those narratives make themselves as you go throughout the season, and my job is obviously just be at the level that I expect to be, and usually that means you're at the top at the end of the season.

"I really try not to get distracted by that because it kind of taints the moment. And really right now, if I'm doing my job, then I'll be there at the end of the season, and that will take care of itself."

James Wiseman To Be Re-Evaluated In 7-10 Days

Feb 12, 2021 1:15 AM

James Wiseman will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days as he recovers from a sprained left wrist.

Wiseman initially suffered the injury on January 30th.

"He's been doing that the last couple of days, but without much contact with the ball in that hand. So he's sort of doing one-armed workouts, if you will. The good thing is he's able to get on the bike and run up and down the floor and keep his conditioning, but the concern would be that the pain, if he were to reinjure it, now you're lengthening the time that he has pain, which makes him more susceptible for a longer layoff," said Steve Kerr.

Kerr also added that the Warriors are currently not looking for any center replacements.

Knicks Remain Most Valuable NBA Franchise On Forbes List, Warriors Move Into Second

Feb 11, 2021 1:18 AM

The New York Knicks are the most valuable franchise in the NBA for the sixth consecutive season, according to Forbes.

The Knicks are currently valued at $5 billion.

The Warriors moved past the Lakers into second place with a $4.7 billion valuation. It is the first time since the Bulls in 2000 that the Lakers and Knicks were not the two most valuable teams in the league.

The average value of teams increased by 4% from last year to $2.2 billion, the smallest increase since 2010.

The average team lost 12% in profit last season, down to $62 million.

Forbes estimates that every team still delivered positive operating income, with the Warriors posting a record $200 million.

The Lakers, Bulls, and Celtics round out the top 5.
