The Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings have exchanged Derrick Williams for Luc Mbah a Moute.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports first reported the deal on Monday.

Williams was the second overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft behind Kyrie Irving.

"We see this as an opportunity for (Williams) to have a fresh start," said Pete D'Alessandro to Sam Amick of USA Today.

Flip Saunders and Rick Adelman concluded that Williams was unable to play small forward in their system.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to trade Derrick Williams to the Sacramento Kings for Luc Mbah a Moute.

The trade is contingent on Mbah a Moute passing a physical.

Williams was the second overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft.

No picks, cash or others players are expected to be included in the deal.

The Sacramento Kings have interest in Williams and could put together a package to offer the Wolves for the former second overall pick.

Chase Budinger has been cleared to rejoin the Minnesota Timberwolves and resume basketball activity.

Budinger is recovering from knee surgery.

Budinger's return to game action remains unknown.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will do everything within their power to keep Kevin Love long-term and that includes improving their roster in the short-term to improve their playoff chances.

The Wolves are making both Derrick Williams and Alexey Shved available via trade in exchange for veterans, according to sources.

Williams was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

The New York Knicks have begun devising a strategy to acquire Kevin Love in 2015, according to sources.

The Knicks need another superstar to pair with Carmelo Anthony, who can leave the franchise in 2014.

The Knicks won't have cap space this offseason due to the contracts of Amar'e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler and Andrea Bargnani.

Between now and Anthony's free agency, Love will be part of the Knicks' sell to get him to-resign.

The Minnesota Timberwolves' front office informed players that they no longer wanted rookies to wear child-themed backpacks.

"They actually said they don't want us carrying them, but I understand with the stuff going on with the football thing," Shabazz Muhammad said. "They want to be separate from that. . . . Now I think rookie hazing won't exist anymore."

Muhammad had been issued a Jonas Brothers backpack to wear on trips.

Michael Carter-Williams and Kevin Love have been named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played Tuesday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 3.

Carter-Williams led the Philadelphia 76ers to a surprising 3-0 start, with averages of 20.7 points, nine assists and 4.7 rebounds.

Love's Minnesota Timberwolves also stand at 3-0 through the first week of the season. He is averaging 29.7 points, 14.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

The NBA handed flop warnings on Monday to Patty Mills, Zaza Pachulia, Kevin Love and Corey Brewer.

Both Mills' and Pachulia's incidents occurred on Nov. 1.

Love and Brewer were warned for flops during Sunday night's win over the New York Knicks.

Ronny Turiaf underwent an MRI on Saturday that revealed a radial head fracture of the right elbow, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced.

Turiaf will be re-evaluated later in the week to determine a timetable for his return.

Turiaf scored three points in 19 minutes in the Timberwolves' first two games of the season.
