Kyrie Irving Likely To Avoid Suspension For Sharing Anti-Semitic Movie

Oct 31, 2022 6:13 AM

Kyrie Irving found himself in some trouble after many spoke out against Irving shared a link to an anti-Semitic movie on Twitter. The Brooklyn Nets, the NBA and Nets owner Joe Tsai all shared messages disapproving of hate or discrimination in any form.

There doesn't seem to be any form of official punishment coming for Irving, either from the Nets or the NBA. Nets GM Sean Marks said anything further would be handled in-house, while a league source indicated there will be no fines nor suspensions for Irving.

While the Nets and the NBA shared broad, generalized statements against any form of anti-Semitism or hate speech, Brooklyn's primary governor Tsai called Irving out directly in a tweet.

“The social media posts from, @KyrieIrving, are troubling. The book and film he promotes trade in deeply #antisemitic themes including those promoted by dangerous sects of the Black Hebrew Israelites movement. Irving should clarify now," tweeted Tsai.

Irving initially refused to take down the tweet, saying “I respect what Joe said, but there has a lot to do with the, not ego or pride of how proud I am to be an African heritage, but also to be living as a free black man here in America, knowing the historical complexities for me to get here. So, I’m not going to stand down on anything that I believe in. I’m only going to get stronger because I’m not alone. I have a whole army around me.”

However, the tweet was deleted as of Sunday evening.

Joe Tsai, Nets Issue Statement Condemning Kyrie Irving Promotion Of Anti-Semitic Film

Oct 29, 2022 12:57 AM

Joe Tsai tweeted a statement on Friday night condemning Kyrie Irving's promotion of an anti-Semitic film on social media.

"I’m disappointed that Kyrie appears to support a film based on a book full of anti-semitic disinformation. I want to sit down and make sure he understands this is hurtful to all of us, and as a man of faith, it is wrong to promote hate based on race, ethnicity or religion," tweeted Tsai.

Irving posted a link on his social media account on Thursday for a film that Rolling Stone pointed out is "stuffed with antisemitic tropes."

The Nets also released a team statement on Friday.

"The Brooklyn Nets strongly condemn and have no tolerance for the promotion of any form of hate speech. We believe that in these situations, our first action must be open, honest dialogue. We thank those, including the ADL (Anti-Defamation League), who have been supportive during this time," said the team.

Nets Reportedly Rank 'Dead Last' For Season Ticket Sales In NBA

Oct 25, 2022 1:19 AM

The Brooklyn Nets reportedly rank "dead last" in season ticket sales in the NBA, sources told Brian Lewis and Josh Kosman of the New York Post.

The Nets have sold around 5,500 season tickets for the Barclays Center, which seats 17,732.

The team sold between 8,000 and 9,000 season tickets last season.

Sources close to the team did not dispute the figures but added that they rely more on same-day tickets for revenue.

The Nets currently rank in the middle of the league for ticket sale revenue due to charging more per seat than smaller market teams.

Kyrie Irving: Nets Got Better After Trade Request By Kevin Durant

Oct 19, 2022 12:51 PM

Kyrie Irving believes the trade request from Kevin Durant made the Brooklyn Nets better in the end.

“When Kev made that request, I feel like we got better,” Irving told Shams Charania during a sit-down interview. “Afterwards. Not initially, but now where we are now, I feel like we can honestly say we got better, with the principles that are needed for success. Without going through some test in the summertime or during the season, we wouldn’t be able to be as close and bonded as we are now.”

The Nets were on the precipice of losing both Irving and Durant this past offseason, but both remain on their roster. Irving could have opted out while Durant perhaps could have continued his machinations to seek a trade.

Kyrie Irving Admits He Shouldn't Have Asked For Trade From Cavs In 2017

Oct 19, 2022 10:11 AM

During an exclusive sit down interview with Shams Charania before the start of the season, Kyrie Irving reflected on his trade request from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. Irving requested a trade and ultimately was dealt to the Boston Celtics.

“When I asked for a trade from Cleveland, the one thing that I look back on is: Did I exhaust as many opportunities to get closer to guys when I felt some type of difference? There was a lot of things that happened in the business that I didn’t understand,” he said. “Asking for a trade — I don’t think it was my time to ask for a trade. And especially to go to Boston, who was No. 2 or No. 1 in our conference, it’s just right down the street. I’m grateful that I had my time there because it was one of the most historical franchises that again, I did not know the power of our industry.

“When I reflect on it, at 30 years old I can say I understand the business better, I understand the way that roles work, and if anybody can sit here honestly and say they messed up, it was me. Because if I’m saying that it is family-run and relationship-run, then while I was in these situations I didn’t handle all of those relationships as I would have wanted.”

Oct 18, 2022 9:22 AM

Sharpe appeared in 32 games (eight starts) as a rookie last season. He averaged 6.2 points and 5.0 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game. This season, Sharpe may see a bigger role, as Brooklyn is in need of center depth behind Nicolas Claxton.

Thomas saw action in 67 games (two starts) as a rookie. He averaged 8.5 points on 43% shooting from the field. Thomas is expected to see increased minutes early in the season as both Seth Curry and Joe Harris continue to recover from ankle surgeries.

Joe Harris, Seth Curry To Miss Start Of Season For Nets

Oct 16, 2022 1:03 PM

Joe Harris and Seth Curry will miss the start of the regular season for the Brooklyn Nets. Both Harris and Curry need more time to ramp up after having ankle surgery.

Nets head coach Steve Nash said that neither Harris nor Curry has suffered any sort of setback. They just aren't ready to play quite yet. Both players will begin doing 5-on-5 work soon, per Nash.

However, Harris did appear in a preseason game. That means the possibility of a setback can't be discounted for Harris. Curry has not appeared in a game since last season's playoffs.
