Mitchell Robinson is set to return from his December 8th ankle surgery when the New York Knicks play the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.
Robinson is expected to come off the bench as he ramps up with his return.
Mitchell Robinson is close to returning to the New York Knicks' lineup, according to Tom Thibodeau.
"Mitchell is moving quite well. He's cleared for contact and all that. He's going through practices and so just needs a little more time," said Thibodeau.
The Knicks coach added that Robinson is set to return before OG Anunoby and Julius Randle.
Robinson has not appeared in a game since December 8.
Thibodeau also said Randle has yet to be cleared for live contact.
"He's feeling better, so that's a good sign. He's ramped it up some. We'll see where it goes," said Thibodeau.
The New York Knicks have signed Mamadi Diakite for the remainder of the season.
Diakite was recently on a 10-day contract with the Knicks.
The New York Knicks have signed DaQuan Jeffries for the remainder of the season.
Jeffries recently signed a 10-day contract with the Knicks and has appeared in 13 games with the team.
The New York Knicks have suffered through an injury-plagued season, but the team is still battling for homecourt advantage in the Eastern Conference. A lot of credit for that goes to Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau. He's fostered a next-man-up mentality that helps his team succeed even when key players are out.
Now, New York and Thibodeau are expected to discuss a contract extension. Thibodeau's current contract is set to expire after the 2024-25 season. But both the Knicks and Thibodeau have interest in discussing an extension, and those talks are expected to begin this summer.
Thibodeau is wrapping up his fourth season as New York's head coach. He's compiled a 166-139 regular season record to date. He's also gone 7-9 in the playoffs, with first round victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.
OG Anunoby will miss the New York Knicks' game on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets with a right elbow injury.
The Knicks are taking a "conservative" approach to Anunoby and will not rush him back.
Mitchell Robinson completed a contact practice on Wednesday.
Robinson has been out more than three months after ankle surgery.
Steve Kerr said Team USA will consider Jalen Brunson for their roster this summer for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Brunson is part of a 41-player pool that will be cut down to 12 before the Olympics.
“There’s a reason he’s on our list. Because he’s a great, great player and high character, a leader,” Kerr said. “He’s everything you want as a player. He’s high on our list and he’s definitely somebody we’re considering.”
Brunson played for the United States in the FIBA World Cup in 2023.
OG Anunoby has had a post-surgical flare-up in his right elbow and will be out indefinitely.
Anunoby returned for three games following a Feb. 8th procedure, but the elbow will need to calm down before he can play again.
The Knicks are 15-2 with him in the lineup since Jan. 1 and 8-10 with him sidelined.
Jalen Green and Jalen Brunson have been named the NBA's Players of Week 21.
Green averaged 26.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists as the Houston Rockets went 3-0.
Brunson averaged 35.7 points and 5.0 assists as the New York Knicks went 3-0.
In his second game after missing a month-and-a-half, New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby seemed to be having some issues with his surgically repaired right elbow. Anunoby was spotted wincing and grimacing when he used his right arm to shoot or pass. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said this was expected, following Anunoby's late-January surgery.
"Stuff like that is gonna happen," Thibodeau said about Anunoby dealing with elbow pain. "We were expecting there to be bumps and bruises like that."
For his part, Anunoby didn't seem worried about his elbow.
"It’s just sore. Nothing really happened. Just went for a ball. And it hurt randomly, but it’s fine," Anunoby said. He added that you can't recreate the same rapid movements in practice as those that happen in games.
