D'Antoni: Stoudemire Forcing Shots Offensively

Dec 31, 2011 1:12 PM

Amar’e Stoudemire shot 4-for-17 with four turnovers and no assists against the Lakers on Thursday.

“He, like a lot of guys, are taking it on themselves,’’ Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. “When things aren’t quite right and don’t feel good, it’s ‘I’ll solve the problem.’ Everybody’s getting themselves in deeper problems. Relax, move the ball, keep the spacing.’’

D’Antoni is disappointed with the Knicks’ execution on the offensive end.

“A little bit of it is, we’re pressing,’’ D’Antoni said. “We’re thinking we have to be that great team right now and we’re not. We’re a little bit tight. We’ve got to loosen up. We’ve got to get the spacing better, get rotations better. We want it too bad. We’ve got to calm down and relax.’’

Stoudemire Sprains Ankle, Says He's 'Day-To-Day'

Dec 30, 2011 10:32 AM

Amar'e Stoudemire said the reason he did not play the final minutes of the Knicks' 99-82 loss to the Lakers Thursday night was that he sprained his left ankle. He is not sure whether he will be able to play when the Knicks visit Sacramento Saturday night.

"It's wrapped up. I'll get some treatment on it tomorrow, get another assessment on it tomorrow, see how it feels," he said in the Staples Center locker room. "My situation is day-to-day."

Stoudemire went down hard on the offensive end early in yet another weak offensive fourth quarter.

D'Antoni: Davis Weeks Away From Making Knicks Debut

Dec 30, 2011 10:29 AM

Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said it could be five weeks before Baron Davis makes his Knicks debut.

“Everything I hear is positive, but there’s no timetable yet,’’ D’Antoni said. “He’s doing everything possible to get ready as soon as he can. But it’s going to be a while. I keep asking him every hour or so. He’s still got about five weeks to go. .’’

Davis, despite his rehab program from a herniated disk, is traveling with the club.

Nate Robinson Unlikely To Return To Knicks

Dec 27, 2011 10:41 AM

When asked if there is any interest in bringing back Nate Robinson, who recently was cut by Oklahoma City, Mike D'Antoni said the Knicks will look into it, but his smile after the question seemed to indicate his disapproval.

A return by Robinson seems highly unlikely, given his tumultuous relationship with D'Antoni. But a short-term solution to the Knicks' sudden lack of depth at the position could come soon.

"One [point guard] is out and one is hurt," D'Antoni said. "Maybe we have to do something about it . . . We'll try to rectify the situation and see what we can do."

Stoudemire's Usage Rate Down In Opener

Dec 26, 2011 1:07 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire used just 18.1 percent of New York’s possessions in Sunday's win over the Celtics.

Stoudemire posted a usage rate higher than 18.1 in 77 of the 78 games he played last season.

Carmelo Anthony primarily used Tyson Chandler on pick-and-rolls with Stoudemire being used just once.

Stoudemire was frequently positioned as a spot-up shooter during those situations, similar to the way Dallas used Dirk Nowitzki when Chandler was involved in the pick-and-roll.

Source: Carmelo Wants Knicks To Add Kenyon Martin

Dec 24, 2011 11:29 AM

The Knicks have one roster spot still open entering tomorrow’s season opener, and Carmelo Anthony hopes it eventually goes to his former Nuggets teammate Kenyon Martin, according to an NBA source.

According to the source, Anthony wants Martin in New York, though he is not permitted to sign a contract until March, when his Chinese team is through with the playoffs. The rugged forward was bought out earlier this week and was expected home for the holidays.

The source said Martin considers the Knicks his top choice, partly because of his friendship with Anthony. They became tight during their nearly seven seasons together in Denver.
