Carmelo Discusses Wish For Chris Paul To Play For Knicks

Oct 21, 2011 11:21 AM

Carmelo Anthony spoke openly about his wish for the Knicks to acquire Chris Paul, who will be a free agent in 2012.

"If it works out and he comes here and they allow him to come here, you'll see a smile from ear to ear," Anthony said during an appearance in Greenwich Village. "It's not just me. It's everybody [in New York]. If he decides to leave New Orleans and goes somewhere else, they'll be feeling the same way I'm feeling."

The Knicks could have enough cap space to sign him depending on what happens with the NBA's new salary cap.

Anthony has grown closer to Paul this summer and have played together during exhibition games.

Anthony acknowledged Paul has spent a lot of time in New York during the lockout, and not just because he's one of the negotiating committee members.

"He spent a lot of time here last year too but people weren't hearing about it because there was a lot of [other stuff] going on," Anthony said. "But we don't talk about [the Knicks]. . . . I'm not one to blow smoke up your [butt]. If I was talking to Chris about coming to New York, I'd tell you. It's a sensitive situation for him. I stay away from it and we have fun."

Union Believes Lakers, Knicks, Mavericks, Heat Ready To Make A Deal

Oct 21, 2011 1:29 AM

Billy Hunter mentioned by name four owners who he believes are ready to make a deal, making the argument that the NBA is less united than they have appeared.

Jerry Buss of the Lakers, James Dolan of the Knicks, Mark Cuban of the Mavericks and Micky Arison of the Heat are, according to Hunter, ready to make a deal.

“They want a deal,” Hunter said of those four owners. “A group of owners from small markets are dug in, and they are carrying the day. The guys who are anxious to cut a deal don’t have the votes.”

Stoudemire Concerned New Rules Could Lead To Selfish Play

Oct 15, 2011 11:09 AM

Amar'e Stoudemire said players are "not budging" on their stance of getting 53% of basketball-related revenue, and that the focus should remain "to keep the game competitive."

Stoudemire also has reservations about how new rules would change the play on the floor.

"By changing certain rules, it's going to make the game not as competitive," Stoudemire said. "It's going to make players more selfish, shoot more, (try for) better stats for themselves as opposed to (helping the) team."

Carmelo's Trade Strategy Upheld By Lockout

Oct 13, 2011 12:19 PM

As the lockout continues and forces the cancelation of regular season games, Carmelo Anthony's aggressive strategy to end up with the Knicks and with a new contract has proven to be the prudent decision.

“I think I did the right thing,” Anthony told reporters Wednesday.

Donnie Walsh was reluctant to acquire Anthony due to the trade demands of the Nuggets and because the Knicks would have had an opportunity to sign him outright in free agency during the 2011 offseason.

The Knicks eventually traded for Anthony while signing him to a three-year, $65 million contract that won't be subjected to roll-backs.

“For the average person out there who really thought I was just trying to get up and just leave for no reason, that really was a big key in my decision,” Anthony said about the lockout. “I knew free agency was coming, I knew it would be altered, I knew it’d be messed up, so imagine if I’d have stayed. I’d have been a free agent now in limbo.”

Citing Late-Game Scoring, Amar'e Would Take Carmelo Over LeBron

Oct 11, 2011 11:07 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire believes teammate Carmelo Anthony is more of a clutch late-game scorer and would take him on his team over LeBron James.

Stoudemire was on ESPN on Tuesday and asked the question.

“I’m going Carmelo Anthony, baby,’’ Stoudemire said.

“Carmelo is a clutch player,’’ Stoudemire said. “Carmelo is definitely known for making those last-second shots. Comes down to the last few minutes of a game, you want to have Carmelo on your team. LeBron is a great facillitator and ultimate team player.’’

Isiah Behind Amar'e 'Renaissance Man' Nickname?

Oct 9, 2011 9:12 AM

Amar'e Stoudemire has declared 'Renaissance Man' as his new nickname.

"I've been ordained the Renaissance Man," said Stoudemire on Twitter shortly after midnight Sunday morning. "This is now my new nickname. Renaissance Man. You like it, I love it. Its not going to change."

Isiah Thomas referred to Stoudemire as a renaissance man in comments to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News on Saturday.

"I told (Stoudemire) the other day, the biggest thing he's done for these kids down here is not spending two hours on the gym floor talking about jumpers and layups. He spent two hours in the classroom with them, then came back and spent another two hours in the classroom with them. He's into learning more and being a true renaissance man."
