Wilson Chandler Signs With Zhejiang Guangsha

Aug 29, 2011 5:28 PM

Wilson Chandler has signed a contract with the Zhejiang Guangsha of the Chinese Basketball Association.

Chandler will not be able to participate in the 11-12 NBA season because the CBA does not allow players to sign with an out clause.

"Maybe I'll lose out," Chandler said. "But I think it can be a great experience. I haven't been in any [labor negotiation] meetings. I can't call it. I'm just taking a risk, at the end of the day."

Chandler is a restricted free agent.

"I like [Denver], I like the team," Chandler said. "Great young team. Coach [George] Karl is a great coach. I like the management. Hopefully I'm there."

The deal is believed to be worth less than the $3.1 million qualifying offer made by the Nuggets.

Knicks Announce Woodson Hiring

Aug 29, 2011 11:42 AM

The New York Knicks announced today that Mike Woodson has joined Head Coach Mike D’Antoni’s staff as an assistant coach. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“I was extremely encouraged after meeting with Mike that he would be a great addition to our coaching staff and we are pleased to welcome him back to New York,” D’Antoni said. “Mike brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team and we are confident that he will help us as we continue towards our goal of building a championship team.”

Woodson joins the Knicks after serving as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks for six seasons from 2004-2010, where he guided the Hawks to the playoffs in each of his last three seasons. In six seasons in Atlanta, Woodson amassed a 209-286 (.419) coaching record in 492 games while posting an 11-18 record in 29 playoff games. Prior to joining the Hawks, Woodson served as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks (1996-99), Cleveland Cavaliers (1999-2001), Philadelphia 76ers (2001-03) and the 2003-04 NBA Champion Detroit Pistons.

“I consider Mike D’Antoni to be one of the top coaches in our game and I am thankful for this opportunity,” Woodson said. “I’m excited to re-join this great franchise where my professional career started and will work to build off of the success they had here last season.”

Jerome Jordan Begins Training Camp In Slovenia With Out Clause

Aug 25, 2011 11:32 AM

Jerome Jordan participated in the first day of training camp with Krka on Wednesday.

Jordan has an out clause in his contract to return to the Knicks when the lockout ends.

"This gives Jerome the opportunity to be in game shape if the lockout is lifted," agent Todd Ramasar told The Post. "You saw with the NFL lockout a lot of guys had early injuries. I'm happy for him. It puts him in good position to develop if you're looking at a postponed season."

Billups Hoping Lockout Doesn't Wipe Away Training Camp For Knicks

Aug 14, 2011 11:56 AM

The Knicks have overhauled their roster over the past year, leaving Chauncey Billups hoping to simply have time for the team to work together in a normal training camp. But if a lockout leaks into the regular season, teams will almost surely have an abbreviated training camp.

“That’s what I want so bad, is to have a training camp together, where we can build,’’ said Billups, who averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds in 21 games with New York. “Because I feel like with the players that we have and the ability that we have to put some pieces together, we can be a very good basketball team.’’

Mike Woodson is the leading candidate to become Mike D'Antoni's defensive assistant on the New York bench.

Woodson and D'Antoni met nine days ago in New York.

"I'm interested," Woodson said. "It's where my NBA career started. I'd like to help Mike and see things continue to grow there."

Woodson was most recently head coach of the Hawks.

"There's interest on both sides," one person familiar with the situation said. "But there's no burn on anyone's part, probably because of the lockout."
