Stoudemire To Launch Sports, Fashion Site

Jul 27, 2011 6:48 PM

While some NBA stars are talking about playing in Europe this fall, Amar'e Stoudemire is taking his talents to the Internet.

The 6-10 power forward has struck a deal to launch his own website at BigLeadSports.com, The Post has learned. The 28-year-old all-star will focus his site on sports and fashion.

Stoudemire is expected to provide exclusive content for Big Lead, which was formed as a sports blog nearly five years ago, in exchange for a revenue-sharing agreement and small equity stake in the company.

"This is definitely a great opportunity," Stoudemire said.

Carmelo Would 'Love' To Play In China During Lockout

Jul 26, 2011 4:45 PM

Carmelo Anthony is in China this week as part of the Jordan Brand Flight Tour.

During a question and answer session with fans, Anthony was asked if he’d like to play in China during the lockout.

“I'd love it,” Anthony said. “There's a lot of history here. The fans are great -- and why not? Why not try it out?”

Anthony signed a three-year, $65 million extension with the Knicks in February.

Stoudemire's Back Still Recovering, Chances Of Playing Abroad 'High'

Jul 26, 2011 12:44 AM

Amar’e Stoudemire suffered a back injury prior to Game 2 of the Knicks' first-round series with Boston in April and has yet to be cleared for basketball related activities.

"Right now, all I can do is rest," Stoudemire said. "There's no rehab right now -- no cardio, no weightlifting, nothing. They say the best thing for me right now is another three weeks of rest, nothing else."

After initially saying he would not play overseas in the event of a lockout, Stoudemire is now listening to offers from foreign clubs.

"All the clubs have called the office inquiring about me," Stoudemire said. "Teams from Israel, China, Turkey, Spain. A lot of countries have been calling."

Stoudemire pegged his chances as "high" of playing overseas during the lockout.

“I just want to make sure I'm healthy and totally 100 percent before I make that type of commitment,” Stoudemire said. “As of right now, we're not entertaining offers. I'm still trying to get (my back) right."

Lakers, Magic And Mavericks Hit With Luxury Tax; Knicks Avoid It

Jul 23, 2011 1:33 PM

According to a source close to the NBA's league-wide audit, three teams -- the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic -- will be paying close to $20 million each as part of the league's luxury tax this season.

All three had player salaries well over the $70 million threshold. The Mavericks and Lakers, two of the most successful franchises over the last decade, have traditionally had high payrolls, while the Magic have been adding salary in an attempt to keep Dwight Howard in Orlando.

The traditionally free-spending New York Knicks are a notable absence from the list. Despite adding Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire in the last year, they won't be paying the luxury tax for the first time in over a decade.

Iman Shumpert Working Out With Jarrett Jack, Plans To Attend Knicks Team Workouts In August

Jul 22, 2011 10:32 AM

Iman Shumpert is doing his best to cope with a rough situation. In an interview with The Post yesterday from Atlanta, Shumpert, selected No. 17th in the June 23 draft, said he has been working out every day at his alma mater, Georgia Tech, and has a solid sparring partner in former Yellow Jacket point guard Jarrett Jack.

"I'm just trying to stay positive, working on developing my game the best I can, play against the best competition I can," Shumpert told The Post. "And when the lockout is over, I'll be ready."

In early August, Shumpert said he is heading to Los Angeles, where a group of Knicks are planning to work out together. Amar'e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Landry Fields, Jared Jeffries and Chauncey Billups, among others, are planning on getting together there.

"The summer league was definitely something I was really looking forward to," Shumpert said. "But the timing of the lockout, you just try to work out and play against good competition."

Knicks Will Offer Refund With Interest For Games Missed

Jul 21, 2011 10:18 AM

If Knicks season-ticket holders are also locked out of the Garden in November, they at least will receive refunds -- with an interest rate better than standard savings accounts.

The Post has obtained a letter sent to Knicks season-ticket holders on July 1 which specifies any cancelled games will be refunded with interest on a monthly basis.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the lockout interest rate is 1 percent, with calculations beginning Oct. 1. Each letter sent out was personalized.

The letter read, in part, "If any 2011-12 preseason or regular season games are cancelled due to a work stoppage, all Season Subscribers will have the option of receiving a refund with interest on a monthly basis, or have money left on account with interest. More specific details about refunds or credits will be shared at the appropriate time."

French National Team Obtains Insurance For NBA Players; Noah Awaiting Medical Clearance

Jul 19, 2011 5:15 PM

The French national team has obtained insurance for Spurs guard Tony Parker, Blazers forward Nicolas Batum, Bobcats forward Boris Diaw, and Knicks center Ronny Turiaf.

All of the players on the French squad were given medical examinations at the INSEP in Paris last week, including Bulls center Joakim Noah, who has dual U.S. and French citizenship.

Undisclosed questions arose during Noah’s exam. France's basketball federation did not disclose the nature or cause of the problem, but said the injury was suffered toward the end of last season.

Noah struggled to regain his form after suffering a sprained right ankle on March 28 against Philadelphia.

He is rehabilitating the injury in Chicago with the goal of rejoining the French team prior to Eurobasket on August 31.

Suns forward Mickael Pietrus was ruled medically ineligible to play for France because of a previous wrist injury.

Source: D'Antoni Would Prefer To Hire Frank As Defensive Specialist

Jul 18, 2011 10:22 AM

Mike D'Antoni could hire a defensive specialist depending on what happens with the Pistons head coaching search, where the finalists appear to be Mike Woodson and Lawrence Frank.

D'Antoni personally likes Frank and there is a strong mutual interest there for many reasons.

First of all, whomever the Knicks hire would have to accept a one-year deal because D'Antoni is going into the final year of his contract and there is some uncertainty about his future. Frank, unlike most, would likely be amenable to accepting a one-year contract because it gives him the freedom to continue to look for head coaching jobs.

Frank might also prefer New York over returning to Boston for proximity reasons, as well, because he could be home full-time in New Jersey, where his wife and two daughters remained last season when he worked for the Celtics.
