Sonics GM Rick Sund said on Monday that 2005 second-round pick Mickael Gelabale has not yet committed to joining the club for the 2006-2007 season.

Gelabale's agent will meet with the Sonics next month, perhaps at the Orlando predraft camp.

Sonics Deny $400m Asking Price

May 23, 2006 2:21 AM

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Sonics officials denied on Monday a published report that the team's majority owner, Howard Schultz, has set an asking price of about $400 million for the franchise.

Schultz has indicated his group may be forced to sell the franchise if the Sonics do not receive $220 million in public funds for improvements to KeyArena or have a new arena built in a suburb such as Bellevue. But Sonics management, through spokesman Kurt Fedders, said Schultz has not set an asking price, nor has he intimated the team is for sale.

Renton And Bellevue Attractive To Sonics

May 5, 2006 3:56 AM

It will take a $220 million arena overhaul and a larger cut of the profits to the Sonics to keep the club at KeyArena and in Seattle, so the King County cities of Renton and Bellevue are lining up as potential suitors.

The Sonics are interested in an arena that is surrounded by retail, restaurant and hotel facilities.

Both cities' would-be locations offer "easy or easily attainable proximity to transportation corridors," Sonics VP Terry McLaughlin said. "They're both located fairly centrally to where our fan base is.

"There's a lot of things to recommend both of them," McLaughlin said.

Seattle Council Offer Cheaper Plan To Remodel Arena

May 4, 2006 3:51 AM

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, City Council President Nick Licata laid out his ideas Wednesday for remodeling the Seattle Center, including a $20 million renovation of KeyArena.

That's just a fraction of the $220 million overhaul the Sonics and Storm owners are demanding.

If the Sonics don't like the deal, he said, the $20 million would be more than enough to convert KeyArena into a concert and performing arts venue, with room for sports.

"I don't think it should be up to the Sonics to shape what the future of Seattle Center will be," Licata said.

City Of Seattle Makes Move To Avoid Loopholes In Potential Sonics Deal

May 2, 2006 3:45 AM

According to a measure approved by the City Council on Monday, the city will have to make a profit in order for the Sonics to remain in Seattle.

The resolution aims to avoid "common loopholes found in other agreements," said Councilman David Della.

"We have been accused, at least the inference has been, that we foot-dragged or stalled," Councilman Peter Steinbrueck said at the Monday meeting. "But we are not seeking (the renovation) in the first place."
