Knicks Beat 76ers On Robinson's Trey In OT

Nov 26, 2005 11:04 PM

After playing poorly in the first half, the New York Knicks went with a smaller lineup and came up with their biggest win of the season.

A buzzer-beating 3-pointer by 5-foot-9 Nate Robinson lifted the Knicks to a 105-102 overtime victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.

Stephon Marbury scored a season-high 33 points and rookie Channing Frye added 21 points and 11 rebounds for New York, which rallied from a 16-point deficit in the third quarter and then squandered a nine-point lead in the fourth.

"We got really aggressive, especially when we went small," Knicks coach Larry Brown said. "We got loose balls, we didn't turn the ball over and we got second shots. We really hurt them on the boards."

Dalembert's Return Will Bolster Frontcourt

Nov 23, 2005 5:13 AM

After the 76ers? shootaround Monday before the game against the Hornets, there were some who thought Samuel Dalembert might play.

"Yeah, he was close," Sixers president Billy King said Tuesday. "I just think he wanted to get another day?s practice, so we?ll just see how he feels tomorrow. If things go well, maybe (he?ll) play tomorrow. He?s traveling. We?ll see. I just think he wants to get more practice time on the court, so mentally you?re confident. He?s come back twice and re-aggravated it, so I think he?s a little more cautious this time. It?s a long year. When you?re cautious playing, you tend to hurt yourself even more."

Iverson Sued For Attack

Nov 23, 2005 5:07 AM

Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson will face questioning by lawyers for four people who are suing him over a July fight at a Washington bar, a federal judge said Tuesday.

U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle in Washington said Iverson can be deposed in the suit, possibly as soon as next month. She denied a defense motion to extend discovery beyond the end of this season, and set a May 10 date for a status conference.

The suit claims the 30-year-old Iverson, league MVP in 2001, joined members of his security detail in attacking patrons and staff at the Eyebar in Washington, leaving one man with a concussion, a perforated ear drum and a damaged right eye. The suit seeks $20 million in damages.

"We're amending the suit" to add the names of members of Iverson's entourage, Gregory Lattimer, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs, said in an interview. "We have suggested Dec. 2 as a possible date for the deposition and are waiting to hear back."

Feeling Ill, Iverson Scores 24, Sits Out Fourth In Win

Nov 22, 2005 6:05 AM

On any other night, Allen Iverson would have begged to go back in the game. On Monday, he was begging for extra rest.
Playing with flulike symptoms, Iverson scored all 24 of his points in the first half, then happily sat out the fourth quarter as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the New Orleans Hornets 103-91.

"I didn't feel good at shootaround," said Iverson, who told coach Maurice Cheeks he was ailing as he prepared to go back in for the fourth quarter. "He just told me to come back, and fortunately everything worked out fine."

"I didn't feel good at all," he said. "I was dizzy out there for virtually the whole game. Once I stopped playing at halftime and came back in, I just never felt right. I think I'm coming down with something. I want to get home and take some medication and see how I feel in the morning."

A.I. To Play Through Injury Woes

Nov 11, 2005 6:51 PM

Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks, after a light walk-through yesterday, said there is no injury issue with Allen Iverson, even though Iverson sat out 5 minutes, 47 seconds of the fourth quarter, during an 18-9 scoring burst that basically put away the Mavericks.

When Iverson returned with 5:17 remaining, he seemed to favor his right side. He scored 25 points on 8-for-21 shooting after a 2-for-11 first half.

Team Meeting Helps Put Sixers Back On Track

Nov 7, 2005 9:09 AM

Philadelphia head coach Mo Cheeks addressed the 76ers' players at a team meeting prior to Saturday's game against the Pacers and told them what he expected of them.

"We had a good talk," said Kyle Korver. "Coach challenged us. He didn't yell or curse or anything like that - he just laid it on the line for us and told us to meet the challenge."

Willie Green Back By All-Star Break?

Nov 6, 2005 6:23 AM

Philadelphia guard Willie Green's surgically repaired left knee is healing nicely. That's good news for the 76ers, who could use the help off the bench. Green told reporters that the doctor who performed his surgery said he could be back by the All-Star break.

"You've still got to hold yourself back a little bit," Green, who sustained the injury before he could sign the five-year, $17 million deal he agreed to, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I just want to try to play the last little bit of the season. Right now, I'm progressing well. The rehab is coming along well."
