Webber Claims To Have Dislocated His Shoulder

Mar 31, 2005 4:44 AM

Chris Webber injured his left shoulder Wednesday night after he was advised to sit out the second half of Phoenix's 116-87 win over his Philadelphia 76ers.

Sixers coach Jim O'Brien described the injury as a strain, while claimed it was a dislocation. He was to be re-examined when the team arrived back in Philadelphia.

``I would just say you should always listen to the doctor,'' said Webber, who had 12 points and six rebounds before leaving the game 2:31 into the third quarter. ``He told me at halftime, 'Do not go back in.'''

Webber also ``tweaked'' his surgically repaired left knee in the first half.

Nash Records Triple-Double In Division Clincher

Mar 31, 2005 4:18 AM

Steve Nash played only 27 minutes, but had a career-high 13 rebounds to go with 12 points and 12 assists.

And to make the night even better for Nash, they defeated the Sixers by a final score of 116-87 to clinch the Pacific Division.

``Given the fact that we won 29 games last year and nobody picked us to be division champ or a playoff team necessarily, it's a great accomplishment,'' Nash said. ``I think we've raised the bar, and having said that, it's not enough."

``They're as good of an offensive basketball team as there is in the NBA,'' Sixers coach Jim O'Brien said. ``We did not have what it took to stay in front of them (or) keep them out of the middle. And, as a result, we let loose their 3-ball.''

The Suns again played without Amare Stoudemire but didn't miss a beat.

Webber Loses In Return To Sacramento

Mar 29, 2005 12:45 AM

Chris Webber received his anticipated raucous ovation from the Sacramento fans, and he seemed genuinely touched ? even somewhat embarrassed. His happiness at being back in Arco Arena was evident. It must have been quite the rush when he drilled his first jumper.

But then, darn? the adrenaline wore off. After a 4 for 5 first quarter, he landed with a thud in the second, going just 1 for 9. His final numbers were a respectable 20 points and 10 rebounds, but he made just 8 of 26 -- a rather unremarkable return.

C-Webb has had to adjust to getting ?waved off? by Allen Iverson, something that will undoubtedly happen frequently. However, his comfort level is improving, and the Sixers had won 9 of 14 with Chris.

But? ?not in OUR house?! No way.

Those former 76ers made sure of it. Skinner grabbed 19 rebounds, scored 14 points and blocked a few shots. Thomas had 20 points and 15 boards. Both had 4 assists in the 118-109 win.

They heard about the parade, and assumed it was in their honor. Corliss Williamson missed it because of some headaches. Oh well.

Cuttino Mobley and Peja Stojakovic fell in step with 30 and 26, respectively. Stojakovic seems to have discovered his sweet stroke the last 3 games, averaging just under thirty, while shooting about 60%.

On the other hand, Mike Bibby has suddenly hit the dregs the past nine games, shooting only about 35%. He managed some clutch baskets in the 4th quarter, however. All those minutes may be having an effect.

Odom Doubtful For Sunday's Game Versus The 76ers

Mar 26, 2005 6:55 PM

Lamar Odom will most likely miss his fourth straight game tomorrow when the slumping Los Angeles Lakers take on the surging Philadelphia 76ers as he is still suffering from a slight tear and bruised rotator cuff in his left shoulder.

Lakers spokesman John Black said Friday that Odom will be examined before the game, but is unlikely to play.

A.I. Gets 36, CWebb Gets 32, Philly Gets Win

Mar 26, 2005 4:36 PM

Allen Iverson hit a 15-foot jumper with 2.4 seconds left to put the cherry on top of a 36-point performance, and Chris Webber had 32 points, six rebounds and four assists in the 76ers' 103-101 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.

``He's helping us, not just with scoring the basketball,'' Iverson said of Webber. ``He's passing the ball like I've never seen a big man pass it.''

``It feels good at the end of the game, whether I want this shot or not, to see the little fella say, 'Clear out' to me,'' Webber said. ``I loved it because it felt good. The way he looked at me, if I had it, it would be the same way. It just felt comfortable and that's the key.''

Sixers Blow Out The Pistons

Mar 23, 2005 11:51 PM

The game was a blow-out from the opening minutes, as the Sixers defeated the Pistons by a final score of 107-84.  Philadelphia led by 22 points at the half.

Allen Iverson scored 39 points and had 10 assists while Andre Iguodala played 42 minutes and was in the game until the final buzzer, long enough to get 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists and record the first triple-double by a rookie since Kirk Hinrich on Feb. 28, 2004.

``I knew I was playing a pretty good complete game,'' Iguodala said. ``I didn't think about it all until the fourth quarter.''

``Dre does it all for us,'' Iverson said. ``He doesn't come to the gym concentrating on one area. The scary thing is he's only a rookie.''

The loss was the second in so many days for the Pistons.

``We got in a big hole in the first quarter and you can't do that against this team,'' Pistons coach Gar Heard said. ``Once they get going, they are tough to beat.''

Iverson Fined $10,000 For Words With Referee

Mar 23, 2005 2:06 AM

The fine comes as a result of an exchange between Allen Iverson and referee Marc Davis on Saturday during the Sixers loss to the Bulls.

Iverson, upset about the calls, challenged Mr. Davis and eventually had to be restrained by his teammates.

"From the history of it, I suspect something will happen to me," said Iverson, who did not practice with the team because of a thumb injury. "I would not be surprised if they decide I was wrong and should be punished."

The fine is a small ding in the Iverson?s pocket book, just about the equivalant to one year's parking tickets for the Philly superstar.

Iverson Interviewed Regarding Official's Comments

Mar 22, 2005 5:42 AM

Allen Iverson has stated that referee Marc Davis said that he'd "whup my ass."

"It just... I never heard it before,'' Iverson said. "I mean, we were getting at each other. It just got out of hand. It was a tough night, obviously, for both of us.

A league official conducted an interview with Iverson on Monday.

"I don't think I'll ever get to that point,'' Iverson said. "I mean, I look at the paper in Philadelphia and read how many people are dying and how much wild stuff is going on in Philadelphia; I'm not getting to any boiling point. This is basketball; this is all fun. I mean, outside of these lines is real life.

"I'm not going to get to a point where I act up like that every game out. I got upset and I reacted, and so be it. It's something I'll live with; it's something I can correct. I was just upset. I'm into the game; I'm a competitor, just like the referee is a competitor. I just spoke up for what I believed. If I made a mistake, then hopefully I'll never make it again.''

Webber Cleared For Tuesday's Game

Mar 22, 2005 5:32 AM

After feeling pain in his left ankle the morning after the Sixers defeated the Cavaliers, Chris Webber feared that it was related to his surgically repaired left knee.  He thus sat during Saturday's loss to the Bulls.

He was cleared by his doctor and practiced on Monday and is expected to play on Tuesday versus the Pistons.

"The doctor told me about a nerve in your foot and several ways you can affect it," Webber said after practice.

"There is a good chance of [hurting] it with how you sit and how you lean. Another way is the way that I ice [the knee] - like I ice my nerve or something like that. But I'm glad it's not the knee. I'm glad it's one game."
