Jordan: 76ers Are A Team In 'Transition'

Aug 28, 2009 6:14 PM

New 76ers coach Eddie Jordan says that his team is working through a transition.

Philadelphia has one roster spot left and will be working combo guard Lou Williams into the role of starting point guard during training camp.

"We think the fact that we don't have prototypical point guards, our guards will be good in it, they can help each other bring the ball up," Jordan told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We have forwards that can bring the ball up, whether it's Andre [Iguodala] playing guard or forward, or Royal Ivey playing guard or forward; Thaddeus Young can bring the ball up."

Andre Miller started at the point for the 76ers last season, but he signed with Blazers as a free agent.

Lou Williams Eager To Run Point For 76ers

Aug 26, 2009 7:46 AM

Lou Williams is excited to run the point for the 76ers.

Philadelphia lost starting point guard Andre Miller to Portland via free agency this summer.

"I'm anxious, I'm ready to go," Williams told the Philadelphia Daily News. "It's going to be exciting to really show what I got, what my capabilities are."

Williams hasn't played the position regularly since high school.

"I realize the responsibility of being a starting point guard," he said. "I'm just excited more than anything. I'm not nervous. I'm not scared. This is something I've been ready for for a long time. I'm just ready to get it going.

"Professionally, it's new waters, but it's something I've done from 8 to 18. I think it will be territory that's revisited. It's something that I've been used to my whole life. Coming off the bench was an adjustment for me. I think that this is something that won't take me as long to get adjusted to, because, like I said, I did it my entire career when I wasn't a professional."

76ers Will Explore Any Opportunities That Arise

Aug 25, 2009 4:14 PM

The 76ers will consider making any moves that could improve their roster, but nothing is imminent.

"If an opportunity is there to help our team we will explore it," general manager Ed Stefanski told RealGM's Andrew Perna in an e-mail. "We are in touch with teams on a regular basis, always monitoring if that opportunity exists. Right now it is quiet."

Philadelphia has added four players this offseason, while losing point guard Andre Miller via free agency.

They drafted Jrue Holiday, signed Royal Ivey and Primoz Brezec and acquired Jason Kapono in a trade with the Raptors.

76ers Aren't Interested In Iverson Reunion

Aug 15, 2009 10:02 AM

The 76ers are thin in the backcourt, but won't entertain the idea of bringing Allen Iverson back to town.

"Allen Iverson is a very good basketball player," 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski said, according to CSNPhilly.com. "But we don't see him in our plans with the age of our kids. We are going to go with youth at the point guard position, and I am sure Allen will hook on with someone."

Philadelphia Looking For Swingman

Aug 11, 2009 7:36 AM

The 76ers are expected to fill their final roster spot with a swingman.

Philadelphia re-signed Royal Ivey on Monday and the club is expected to sign free-agent center Primoz Brezec later this week.

Rodney Carney, Stephen Graham, Joey Graham and Linton Johnson are players that the 76ers are expected to consider for their final roster spot.

"I think we're going to leave our hand open," said team president Ed Stefanski Monday, according to Philly Blurbs. "We'll bring a few guys into camp and let them fight it out for a spot or two - or if someone we like isn't signed going into camp and we can get them here, we'll do that. Right now, we're not going to rush into making a decision on that position."

Sixers Re-Sign Royal Ivey

Aug 10, 2009 3:40 PM

Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced that the team has re-signed free agent guard Royal Ivey.  On June 15, Ivey declined the player option on his contract for the 2009-10 season, making him an unrestricted free agent.

?We are fortunate to be able to bring back Royal Ivey, an experienced guard with good size who is familiar with our team and core philosophies,? Stefanski said. ?Prior to making a decision on signing an additional guard, Coach Jordan expressed his interest in acquiring a player who puts the team first and plays aggressive defense, both qualities embodied by Royal."
