76ers Still Crying Foul Over Devin's Shot

Feb 24, 2009 6:29 PM

The 76ers still haven't gotten over the game-winning heave that Nets point guard Devin Harris was credited with on Monday night.

Andre Iguodala hit one of two free throws to give Philadelphia a 96-95 lead, but Harris won the game for New Jersey with a half court heave that was reviewed by officials before it was confirmed.

"I thought a lot was going on for 1.8 seconds," said Iguodala. "I thought for sure it wasn't good, and I still don't think it was good."

"It was no good -- we all know that," said Andre Miller. "But you can't sit here and argue it, because of the consequences. It's over now.

"But still, the game was ours and it was pretty much taken from us."

Iguodala even feels as though Harris got away from traveling.

"That was another issue, too," said Iguodala. "There were so many things that went on in a small amount of time for that shot to be good."

Harris Gives Nets Win On Half Court Heave

Feb 24, 2009 2:24 AM

Devin Harris answered the prayers from all of his Net teammates on Monday night, with this half court heave at the buzzer giving New Jersey a 98-96 win over Philadelphia.

According to the Associated Press, Harris and the Nets were forced to sweat out a long wait while the referees checked the replays to ensure the shot came in time, which showed how close the call was.

"It's the great thing about this game," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "These players are so talented, they make freakish shots. Not that it's a rehearsed shot. I don't know if Devin's doing it in the gym, but the basketball gods were with us tonight."

While there was no question the shot swished, officials Derrick Stafford, Violet Palmer and Pat Fraher had to watch replays of the heave for 2 1/2 minutes with players from both team staring over their shoulders.

"I didn't want to look at the replay," said Harris, who stood near the center jump circle while the review took place. "I just kept my head down, waiting for a reaction. On the court, I was looking at Violet and she was telling me 'no good.' That was the first thing that I saw."

Bryon Russell Interested In NBA Return

Feb 22, 2009 6:49 PM

Bryon Russell is interested in making a return to the NBA, and his agent has had conversations with the Celtics, 76ers, Thunder, and Suns.

Russell, who has been allowing a knee injury to heal, says that he's capable of playing 15-20 minutes a night.

"I want to help some playoff teams and get back into the game that I love," said Russell of playing in Boston. "I work out every day. The rust part can get worked out just by playing with the fellas. I wouldn't take away from The Big Three [in Boston]. I would love to play with them. I have nothing to prove. I want to lend a helping hand with the loss of [James ] Posey by playing defense, knocking down jump shots, and basically playing the role of a Posey. I got some life in these legs. Now that the [trade] deadline is over, I think people are looking to add a veteran on their squad. I'm hoping I can provide that."

Feb 21, 2009 5:46 PM

Philadelphia point guard Andre Miller faced Miami on Saturday, just days after suffering a right calf strain.

Miller, was has only missed three games in his ten-year career, extended the NBA's longest current streak of games played to 502 with the appearance.

"Knowing Andre's personality, I don't think [the streak] even matters to him," 76ers coach Tony DiLeo said.

Detroit's Tayshaun Prince has the second-longest current streak of consecutive appearances, at 465. Derek Fisher (304) of the Lakers is third and the 76ers' Samuel Dalembert (244) is fourth.

Blazers Still Making Play For Miller

Feb 19, 2009 2:40 PM

A source has told David Aldridge that there have been Thursday discussions between the Sixers and Blazers centered on Andre Miller.

The deal would involve the expiring contract of Blazers center Raef LaFrentz and another Portland guard in exchange for Miller and forward Reggie Evans.

Philadelphia wants Jerryd Bayless, and the Blazers have made the rookie guard next to untouchable. Portland would be more open to completing a deal, the source said, to include a guard like Steve Blake or Sergio Rodriguez.

The trade might be resurrected if the Grizzlies were involved and sent guard Kyle Lowry to Philadelphia.

If Sixers Deal, It Will Be For Basketball And Not Economics

Feb 19, 2009 4:24 AM

With many trades around this deadline expecting to be financially motivated, do not expect the Philadelphia Sixers to follow suit, Bernard Fernandez of the Philadelphia Daily News is reporting.

"I think the economics of the league definitely is an issue," Stefanski said last night. "I think you'll see that in a lot of trades, with teams trying to do things that might not seem to make a lot of basketball sense."

"If we do something [before the trade deadline], it would only be if it made sense from a basketball perspective."

The Sixers' biggest trade chip - Andre Miller - appears likely to remain in Philadelphia.
